From the echo:

RYMAN LEAGUE CUP: Aveley, having completed a Premier Division double over Canvey Island, continued to hold the Indian Sign over Gulls last night

Hosting John Batch's men in yesterday evening's home quarter-final of a competition sponsored by Championship Manager, the Millers won through 2-1 thanks to a brace from Sherwin Stanley after three and 84 minutes.

Back from injury Jason Hallett levelled after 36 minutes, but the Islanders were down to 10 men for much of the second-half when skipper Richard Halle was sent off after picking up two cautions.

Did anyone go - was it a good match?

Went last night , up to the sending off which i must say looked very soft from where i was, it was a very even match. Both sides played

some good football on a bit of a sticky pitch and the front 2 of hallett and rowe looked really good. I think we hit the post and bar in the 1st half.

Second half we had to do a lot more defending being a man down , and should have had a penalty but yet again not given.

Much better performance than our recent league game and probably a good job it didn't go to extra time.

Stupid thing was Halle shouldn't have got the first booking as the ref completely ignored calls from the Canvey players to stop play as Jason was down injured.

As for the second yellow, it was a 50/50 ball and Rich won the ball. Ref made some extremely strange decisions.

Not too bothered we're out of this competition. Didn't really need another fixture to add to the pile we've got already.
