When the league was won

Studying a lot of championship teams who have been truly great there comes a point in the season when you say this is the day that it is believable that we will win this league and get promoted. Totton have 5 games in hand, i know people will say we are only 4 points in front but from experience playing catch up is extremely difficult and with them playing 3 games a week i excpect the wheels to fall off their title bid.

The likelihood is that we will get beat at some point but with just 6 games at home and away.

Teams left to play Home Paulton, Gosport, Cirencester, VT, Bedfont G, Abingdon.

Away Bridgwater, Taunton, Bishops C, Uxbridge, Totton, Bracknell

Is it possible to remain undefeated and reach 100 plus points. This side has the ability and strength to do it and with everyone pulling together its not too difficult to understand why we have been so successfull this season. So at which point will i believe we will have won the league in reality of course when no one can catch us but after yesterdays victory i now believe. Although looking back it could have been that day when those people moved heaven and earth to get that game on against Hungerford when everyone around us was being postponed. ;)

If you ask me and we go on to win it I would say it was when the Totton Chairman, Budney or whatever his name is, slated us before the match at our place and then continued it after he had lost saying, in his local paper, it would be an injustice if Windsor win the league. I mean you can only tempt fate so far.

But still a way to go, we are only 4 points ahead from our point of view, but I agree they do have a few weeks of 3 match weeks and that must be tough. Been a few moments in the season, like the Hungerford match, the two late golas against AFC Hayes and of course the Totton war of words that in previous seasons we would have buckled under. But lets not forget that we did the double over Mangotsfield on the darts board that surely inspired the players on to victory and maybe the title. Morale just doesn't seem to have dipped in the team and that is the difference over other teams I feel.

And yes I do believe we can go undefeated now, whether we do or not I'm not sure, but we certainly have the team, we have played every team at least once and not lost so we clearly have the capability. Would love to go to Totton as champions, now that would be a cracking day out!!!!

Away Bridgwater, Taunton, Bishops C, Uxbridge, Totton, Bracknell

...

Compare Totton's run-in:

Home: Yate Town, Bishops Cleeve, Paulton Rovers, North Leigh, Thatcham Town, VT FC, Windsor & Eton, Hungerford Town, Taunton Town

Away: Bridgwater Town, Bedfont Green, Mangotsfield United, Cirencester Town, Paulton Rovers, Gosport Borough, AFC Hayes, Abingdon United

(and they've got a Hampshire Senior Cup match to fit in there as well, maybe more than one.)

So we both face Paulton and VT FC at home, Bridgwater away. We additionally are home to Gosport and Cirencester whereas they're away, and they have to hope to take points from Paulton away: and of course they face us at home... and all their 18 games have to fit in just 8 weeks.

So on paper they might be close but it'll be very, very tough for them. I feel a bit guilty about feeling pleased about this  they don't deserve to lose second place, but they might purely due to the workload.

The Fat Lady is only just warming up, so let's not get ahead of ourselves...Twelve games to go. Win the next ten and we can all run around celebrating! I say just keep thinking it, but not saying it just yet.

Exactly Doris! Spot on. We are not an cocky bunch on the whole so no need to make people think that! Leave that to the AFC Totton staff!! Does that infamous copy of the paper still exsist? Would be great to parade it around their ground framed!!

Im not running around just yet, think its ok to talk about it im not supersticious (oops) dont think any windsor fans would be stupid enough to say its in the bag in reality. Unlike Oxford when they got relegated from the football league a few years back, sitting pretty then after 20 games unbeaten on top of the conference, their fans shouting we are unbeatable. Needless to say they fell apart.

When you win the title next May, you will all look back and say: "Why did we worry?" But you do, it's natural.

When Romford won the league last season we only lost one game all term, but with Enfield not totally out of the equation, my old apron was flapping like a good 'un until they could no longer do the math.

You need to grind out a few ugly 1-0s and that will frustrate the likes of Totton and Bridgwater... games in hand ain't games won.

Good luck anyway for the rest of the seaon and have fun in the Ryman Premier next season.. Whoops, haven't you heard that you will be moved if you go up??

And while I am on, stilling looking for the following W&E progs:

HOMES

78-9 Almondsbury Greenway (FAV).

80-1 Whickham (FAV).

85-6 Runcorn (FAT).

08-9 Didcot (PO).

AWAY

79-80 Guisborough (FAV).

80-1 Whickham (FAV).

82-3 Halesowen Tn (FAV).

04-5 Grays (FAT).

I wouldn't say this was being cocky just looking at the season so far and seeing where we went right to date. If anyone at the beginning of the season offered us 4 points clear at the top going in to March i can't imagine a Windsor fan not ripping your arm off for it.

No one thinks it is over yet (or if they do they are very stupid) but we are allowed to hope. So we have 36 potential points and Totton 51 potential points. Totton, in my opinion, have been the best team i have seen play us in the league over the past two seasons and on that basis i wouldn't rule them out, but it is very tough and only time will tell.

we just need to finish the season as strongly as we have started it and we will be okay, we won't win every game to the end of the season, but doubtful Totton will either.

an exciting season that has lots yet to offer, so come on Yate tonight (if its on) and lets play to the top of our game Saturday and get a result.

UTR!!!

Understandably we ourselves tend to be more cautious but I suspect that if you armed supporters across the country with a copy of the current League table, then pointed out the fact that we are 30 games unbeaten, the fact that (in a tougher run in than ours) Totton have 2 and more games a week to cram in until the end of the season, and the fact that, whilst we seem to have a settled and happy squad, there has been a certain unrest in the Totton playing staff of late, there would be very very few of them who didn't say that the title is in the bag.

No conclusion is certain in sport until the mathematics say so but, at this point in time, there has seldom been any stronger likelihood in football than Windsor & Eton finishing this season as clear Champions.

PS But I certainly wouldn't be telling the players that!

Last season Windsor, Totton and Truro had bad runs from about February. If any of those three teams had not had a terrible run they would have won the league confortably. It is fair to say that Truro had the better of the worse run and ended up winning the league (justifiably so in my opinion). It is still possible to have a bad run and complacency can certainly lead to that. I would hope and expect that Scotty won't let that happen, but it is easy to do if you think you have already won the league.

If I were a Totton fan I would probably be resigned to a realistic second place finish, but I am sure if they win a couple of their games in hand and they get their dander up it could be a very tight run in.

Nothing is in stone yet, we are in the driving seat, but so were Newcastle when they were 11 points ahead of Man Utd that fateful season. Lot of games to play yet..........

I will also hold my hand up as one who thought it was won, Totton as i said before if they win their remainder of games will deserve it, they must be favourites now, the only consolation is perhaps the pressure is off us albeit slightly. It will be extremely difficultin the play offs, i would fancy VT :bartshocked:

If VT win the play offs they would do so after about 20 games in 40 days (exagg poss) which would be pretty remarkable.

I actually think that would be rather unfair on W&E, mainly because I would be highly suspicious that 2 teams in the league (VT & Totton) are not fielding human beings, but some form of super beings from another planet.

I guess it's taking me longer than I thought to convert my expectations from the Professional game, where 3 games in 8 days is considered a heavy workload, up to the Non League where any workload is lapped up with relish. They might not be as good at football but when it comes to attitude, commitment and stamina it's a case of Real Men -v- Prima Donnas.
