Is the season over?

Recommended Posts

Having now played 26 games and picked up 52 points, and with the recent run of lost points is it the end of the season?

The team have already surpassed all our expectations and passed the total points gained for the whole of the recent previous seasons after all games were played - so not a bad performance.

A new team have bonded well and Steve Batemen has proved he has a good eye for players (still needs to find the right body for the midfield mind you) and has the contacts in the game when required.

So is the season over?

Well I dont think so, there are still 16 games to go and the leaders are only 7 points ahead, so with a potential 48 points still possible it is far from over - will we make the number one position, well it is mathermatically very possible but still a big ask. Will we make the play offs, well we should do with the current 2 points per game average, or will we drop down to the mid-table level of mediocrity?

At the end of the day its up to the players and how Steve Bateman motivates them, yes they are proving they are good by currently being in the play off positions, but that wont last if the last few results continue, however there have been glimpses this season of a leauge winning team!

So whats it to be boys?

I agree that it will be a big ask for us to win the league. Bateman has got out of this league via the playoffs before so he knows what is required.

The season is not nearly over. I do not think we will drop out of the playoffs. Our recent form is just a minor setback but we are not the only ones who will suffer this kind of setback. I mean it happened to Chesham earlier this year and now they are coming back stronger and stronger.

I think we will be in the playoffs comfortably and then we shall see??

will we win the league?? it will take a miracle but as said above it is possible given we have to play all the teams around us starting tomorrow night.

i am sure most teams in our league would love to hit the "bad form" we have at the moment. 1 loss in 10 games or so is it not??

our transformation from a losing every week team to what we are now is amazing and beyond anything we could have hoped for this time last season. remember we survived relegation about 3 weeks from the end of the season last season and now we have people bleating on and on just because we drew a few home games and lost 1

Good to see someone has an ounce of sense on this forum.

He's right, in the last 10 games in all competitions (since the Bury defeat) we have only lost once and drawn 3 times, all at home. Every team at this end of league is bound to have patches where the results are not so good, the important thing is that you recover from them. 6 wins out of 10 is not bad!

I am obviously not saying that we should not be allowed to complain on here (after all that is part of what it is for) after giving up a 2 goal lead like we did on Saturday, but things are not that bad, it could be a lot worse (see the last few seasons!), it is just that we are dropping points as others are gaining them, but we have done the same to other teams so it's not a problem.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow night.

Firstly, we WILL NOT win the league but we will get into the play-offs. As has been mentioned on numerous occasions we have a good, talented team but there are a couple of teams, namely Hitchin and Bury that are a bit more consistent and more solid all round teams than us.

that is the clue

consistentcy

if we could do an 8 gamer and not relying on other teams (great) we are up there........ if not play offs it is

still dreaming we will win it though

we moaned when Jarvis called us faves for the league stating that no one fans or staff from Slough had ever said we thought we would and now suddenly most seem to think we should be winning the league. expectations have changed drastically to suddenly

if we, as we appear to be well on course to do so, do make the playoffs i would be bloody delighted. as said Bury and slightly lesser extent Hitchin are much better teams than us. thats not to say we don't have equally as good players. in fact part the reason we are so high is that a lot of our players know each other from other clubs otherwise we may not even be in the playoffs right now

I wouldn't say they are much better than us Mr Rebel. They have just got a better more solid midfield. In a one off situation i.e. the play-offs, we could well turn them over if we produce our best form.

undoubtedly we can. we lost by 1 goal against both yet didn't play near our best in both of those games. my point was as an overall team they are clearly stronger. as you pointed out particularly our midfield is not as strong. unfortunately when your midfield is not strong enough against the better teams it will be very hard to create enough chances to beat them. playoffs are anybodies anyway
