Lloyd Blackman

Hello guys, As you have pointed out Blackman is not playing that well, I do agree on that. He seems either not fit or can not be bothered, I don't know which. Often the ball is fed to him, but he really IMO does not do much with it. OK he has scored 13, well done for that, but how many sitters has he missed. Im not here to tear him apart, as I think all sportsman have their ups and their downs, it's how you deal with it, and as Captain he really should lead HIS team by example, that's not dropping your head when things / balls have not been delivered directly to his feet, go to the ball every now and then, as a striker you will not get every shot in the back of the net, even at 2 or 3 meters from the net, have a punt a bit further out, the goal keeper needs to be tested, might even get a deflection to another Margate player, Blackman does seem to wait for the other team to catch him up and surround him, then it a big free for all to see if the ball goes in or not. Captain really, mm I don't know.. At the moment, as we all are aware management is an issue, but the Captain walking back to the changing room last week at Hornchurch after being subbed, he should of stayed on that side line, as Captain and watched the the game, and encouraged HIS team, the other players IMO, as I'm sure I would have if I was in the team, would of felt like if the captain has not got his heart in it, why should I, especially with no manager.

He should be giving confidence right across the pitch from the goal keeper, defenders mid field the whole lot, this I don't see a great deal from LB, This includes players on the bench they need his full support, before the game, during the game and after the game, win or lose, that's what it's all about being Captain.

Thanks for your time gentlemen.

Great post. Largely sums up my thoughts on Lloyd.

Previously I have praised Lloyd & felt he was a good front man. I still believe he is but he has been letting himself down lately.

His work rate alone isn't enough for a target man.He needs more in his locker than just that.

He needs to start leading the front line again rather than just being a part of it. Coming for the ball, better ball control,

watching that line for the offside, shooting on sight (he does have a powerful shot on him) but most of all "stop getting the man before the ball".

Nearly everytime the ball is played to him & he has a player near him he will go for that man first, to possibly try & give himself more time, instead of going for the ball first. If he was to concentrate on that ball more first & foremost he would improve his game a lot I'm certain of that. He commits too many fouls doing this. The foul,if any, should be coming from the defender, from behind, rather than from Lloyd receiving a pass.

You have made your point there Tony . 4 comes to mind

4 what Geoff? 4 points? His ALL ROUND game needs improving on whether that be 1,2,3,4 or more points. Now what is YOUR point.

My reply is not aimed at any one in particular, but this has got to stop.

he is our captain, our top-scorer, one of our more experienced players and still people are not happy with him. I cant understand how anyone can criticise his work-rate - he plays up front all on his own ( as both Jones and Healy drift around). he challenges for every ball in the air and on the floor. I bet he is knackered on a saturday evening, as well as being disappointed with a loss - i dont think u can say that about every player in our team.

wot do u expect from him?, in any league playing alone up front is a thankless task, and a lot harder than people think - he is not drogba after all

this is an ugly topic, that I believe was created to slag off one player and thats not fair. we have far worse players, and im damn sure there are players that care a lot less than Blackman does.

Love him to score a hat-trick next home game and ram it down ur throats, but then im sure an hour after the game we wud have " i knew Blackman was a great player all along"

Wouldn't we all & I for one know that he is capable of doing just that. (There!,said before it happens & have said it previously when others haven't) but improvement in his game is required at this moment in time. He HAS done BETTER earlier in the season & i.m.o. he is not giving us of his true worth lately.

CE, I accept your theory about his position & yes maybe you are right on this one & I am wrong, thinking about it again.

Lloyd came to us from Maidstone where as far as i know he never played as a main front man like he does for us , he sat just behind the centre forwards there so being the main man at Margate is a new thing to him . We all know that he can keep and hold the ball well so if there was some desent guy up front with him it may just get better for everyone so to score 13 goals out of his true position is not bad going really . Lloyd could score 20 for us but if the defence is leaking goals like a bucket with a whole in it then it wouldn`t matter how many lloyd was scoring would it .

Funnily enough LB has scored seven in his last 14 appearances which is pretty good.

Totally agree DBB with your post it was WW a few weeks ago, week JK the other week 13 goals is not a bad return for some one up front on his own and having to drop deep to get the the ball to try to get things happening. To be fair what other options do we have at present....em none!!!!!!!

At the end of the day if LB had scored 23 goals so far we'd be moaning that he hadnt scored 33 . We probably still wouldnt have any more points than we currently have as our defence is so woefully inadequate. I agree he certainly isnt the finished article but if he was would he be playing for us ???? He's not my idea of a great striker but play him up front largely on his own in a team that is complete gash then 13 goals isnt a bad return IMO.

Most managers in this league would probably love a player who offers so little (according to some) and returns so much (goal every other game), its a game of opinons after all.

As for his captaincy im def not convinced on this one but then who else is there ? I heard recently lloyd could have left us , for a club above us (obviously) but he turned it down and chose to fight for the cause , that in my book says quite a bit.

As someone said, one week its Wayne Wilson then Keister now Lloyd, who's next ........

Is it me or am i getting a sense of selective reading here?

I don't care how many goals one person scores, because one person doesn't make a team and at the moment it seems Blackman is struggling to be the finisher. In future games that Blackman plays in, because he will i would like to see him stay further up field for the entire game and be a target man, hold up the ball to allow others to get forward and play the ball of to either Jones or Healy and loiter around the 6 yard area when attacking (which he does do).

My dissapointments with Blackmans performances over recent games maybe because i thought i'd see a Rob Haworth type player

Has LB in fact been let down by the various management teams (and possibly the board if funding not provided -and/or signings vetoed) in so far as he needs a strike partner to play off-and 7 months into the season-it not happened.

Yorath said we needed a target man-as did MB-but neither got one.

As others post-LB is not a target man-and seems to me in the circumstances `to have done very well for MFC this season

yes i believe Curtis is of league standard, there is a lot more to come, do not be fooled by his laid back attitude, he is playing well with in himself and needs to be pushed on. Saturday he was out of position as well.

By the way, I believe the reason the keeper was not getting distance on the ball was because he was carrying an injury.

it is beyond me why we have an out and out centre half on the bench and decide to play Robinson at centre half?!?

And flavour of the month ? seems to be that for the best part of 2 seasons? some flavour of the month...

and as for blackman 13 goals is a good return maybe just fatigue setting in but he will keep getting odd goals here and there and when the new guy comes in to sort the defence leaking goals the odd goal here and there will be enough im sure!!!

Good point about fatigue maybe getting to blackman (mental and physical ).

I would have thought Curtis in the middle makes alot of sense in abscence of anyone else.Yes-Wheatley on bench-but whilst he has 'potential' (at what stage do all these players with potential realise it ?),for me-decent player though he is-Wheatley makes too many costly errors which he needs to eradicate as he gets more experienced .

Cliffe in a deep position-now that was a strange one !!
