Division Two

Old Bradwell United v Tring Corinthians

A report on this one:

Old Bradwell United 1 v Tring Corinthians 5

South Midlands Division 2

A phone call to Old Bradwell gave me the go-ahead to visit this game and unlike Leicester there was not a snow flake in sight. The ground is fairly basic, railed on three sides with a rope on the cricket square side and dug outs on the river and railway line side. There is a nice clubhouse back up the slight slope, serving tea at half-time. The pitch was very heavy, according to locals, the worst they have seen it in a long time. Tring always looked the more likely winners, but it wasn't until the second half that they pulled away from the home team. The refereeing team were very friendly chatting before the game and with both teams showing a sensible attitude, the referee Mr.Wortley was able to keep the game flowing despite the mud.

Division One

Hoddesdon Town v Cranfield United

A report on this shock result of the day from another's Forum:

Hoddesdon Town (0) 2, Cranfield United (0) 2

Spartan South Midlands League Division One.

Admission £4, Programme £1.50 (Usual size - v.good),

Coffee large 65p Kit Kat 45p

Attendance 40+ est'd

I must admit that Cranfield conceeding 43 goals in their last six games swung me on attending this game. Hoping to catch a few goals the half time score line was disappointing. Cranfield began nervously looking like a side whose confidence was as expected, very low. As the half went on they worked their socks off in trying turn around the poor form of late. With eight minutes of the second half gone Cranfield's Ellis Spence gave them a deserved lead, cue for much celebration being the first goal Cranfield had scored in six games.. Hoddy then equalised 8 minutes later but Cranfield still looked to have found a new confidence and were battling for everything. It was this that may have cost them the game as first Ivan Riley and then Andy Cleary went down injured in trying to stem a Hoddy attack. Both players required treatment and both had to leave field of play. At the time of stoppage Hoddy had gained a corner which Cranfield had to defend two men short. From the corner Hoddy took the lead with a back heel from Colin Metivier within the 6 yard box. Cranfield battled on and gained a deserved point in the 91st minute with Ben Brill on target. Good fighting performance from Cranfield but Hoddesdon could have done a lot better if they had matched the determination of the visitors.

All my back up games to this "loads of goals"

I went over to watch hertford vs haringay yesterday...............pitch is in a terrible state over there.....bit like hertford really! If they just got there heads down and played instead of shouting and scream at both linesman and ref they would be a much better team.

The linesman in the second half made 2 great calls on the big haringay number 10 as he went one on one with the keeper...............both times the 10 missed but the abuse from the hertford back 4 towards the lineo was wrong to say the least!!!

If the big haringay 10 had got his finger out haringay could have had 6 at least..........3 times he went one on one shooting down the keepers neck instead of squaring for a simple tap in for number 9 (who worked his socks off).

Dont know much about hertford but if they keep playing like that they will be finshing somewhere down the bottom of the division..................looks a right mess over there. Fair play to haringay who took 3 out of the 4 chances they had in the first half.

All in all not a bad game to watch.

MonkeyMonkey8 - I would have thought you'd have found your way to MK Wanderers v Aston Clinton yesterday or Evergreen v Codicote, I see Paul Tompkins continues to work miracles at Bury Lane

I must agree with MonkeyMonkey about Hertford after watching them play.

They have 2 maybe 3 good players the rest of them are there just for a moan from the looks of things. Yes the pitch is not great and the teams both struggled to play passing football but i don't think herftford could pass water right now. The back four were poor the keeper was luckly not to be sent off after a two footed off the ground tackle..Lucky for him the Ref missed it.

The way they moan at the Ref and Linesman is poor and bad to see and i must say the linesman was spot on everytime when allowing play to go on and when giving an offside, but the Herftford players think that it is ok to have a pop and run 40yards to moan about it...If they run 40 yards after the ball the way the run it to moan they might get somewhere....

The manager over there looks like he has no control of the team and they do what they want..In all they are a very poor side who are running out of ideas.

Must say though the lady who does the burgers is a nice lady and does a nice burger.

A nice club with nice people but with a poor football team.

Good shout "love the game"..............them burgers were top draw.....i had one myself.

Not really sure whats gone on over there...........looks like they have lost there way a little.

Maybe they need a clean sweep and bring in a new number 1 who has some good young players..........think there midfield could do with it!

Don't think they will do anything during this season, they can't go down this season so i reckon they will try and see the season out, then they might try and start again.

Lot of work needs doing there, pitch needs sorting out big time and alot of new players who want to be at the club need bringing in.

Hoddesdon's version of events from Saturday, you can visualise the reporter's backside, possibly Jonno's, shifting on the computer stool as he typed up the report:
