Graeme H
We could do a lot lot worse. I don't buy into all this nonsense about him being manager of the Rams - so what? Or all this stuff about what he may or may not have said in the past. The fact is he is probably as good an option as we have at the moment. Local, knows the league well, would bring stability etc etc Les Riggs was also manager of Ramsgate..........and look what he did.

Coffin Ender
My feelings too Graeme. Who else would want the job at the moment? Little money, poor team, last manager left in odd circumstances...it's not very tempting.

Did a brilliant job taking the Rams from Kent League to Rymans play offs. Built a really good team on limited resources. BUT look at whats happened since. Maybe he needs a change though. And perhaps he would learn from his mistakes over the last 2 seasons. Might just happen but would he get on with KP?

Cookie
I've already seen that Ian on the other thread. Or is it you just rubbing it in. Non starter in my book but if it WERE to happen then sorry but I'd be OFF! Edited February 15, 2010 by Cookie

Ramsgate as a club are no bigger than Deal or Herne Bay and they are on their way back to where they belong. However, to reach the Ryman Prem was an amazing achievement. Cookie, it wouldn't bother me if Peter Sutcliffe was the manager. I support Margate, always have and always will.

Yeah me too CE & after 50 years I have seen a few come & few go but there is always the exception to the rule. Would be interesting though wouldn't it (at least) if he WERE to get the job & then to see how I actually do react. I still think it's a non-goer UNLESS he comes real cheap then that MAY be an outside possibility. Nice enough chap away from the pitch though I have to say that. ronks41
I applaud everyones positives on this one but you may find, due to finances/time of season, that JK and or WW will probably have to manage(and I use the term loosely) the squad until the end of the season. It is almost impossible to find , in KP's words, the right person so quickly. Edited February 15, 2010 by ronks41
Iris's Tea Hut
Which begs the question 'Why was it so necessary to let the last man go'? Obviously we will be far, far poorer in footballing terms what ever happens.
DomBlueBoy
Jim Ward as manager wouldnt be the end of the world. His teams always play with passion, are strong and fight for the club. Is there anyone else who has experience of the Ryman League, is or could be avaliable and would be relatively cheap? As a team we are too nice - we looked scared to tackle, scared to get stuck in and at times matches can look like men against boys. this wouldnt happen with Ward as manager. Also, as I sit on the stand across from the dug outs, it is very common to hear the opporsitions manager shouting, patrolling the touchline and generally getting his players up for it, questioning decisions - this may not be everyones cup of tea - but it makes a difference -to the players and to the referee without a doubt. in a ideal world, Butler would never have left, or would somehow return as manager (however unlikely that wud be) Having Keister and Wilson as joint "managers" till the end of the season would be a disaster - just couldnt work, and relegation would be a definate. if it was as easy as picking the oldest players to be managers and expecting them to be an instant success when they have absolutley no experience of management and expect them to keep an average (at best) team in the league then every international, professional and semi-pro footballer would be a successful manager over night. if Yorath couldnt do it and he was ment to be a proper manager then what chance has 2 players got! I say if Butler cannot return, then Jim Ward has to be one of the top choices to take over. Just my opinion!

ronks41
I am not sure if this guy is still looking, as he was at the begining of the season, but Alan Kimble was released from th Fleet. He has extensive experience and knowledge, and at a slightly higher level, but would probably be toooooo expensive?
rayw
HOOF BALL -----NO THANKS A lot of people said the same about Kinnear. I think the thing about both of them is they could motivate a team in a way few others can. Both lacked a plan B maybe. But lots of managers PLAN As are nowhere as near as good. Jim Ward might just be the best choice for Margate in the long run. But i doubt if he would get the Job.
Ian_Sanderson
Ward's ideal for Gate says Rams chairman Tuesday, February 16, 2010, 07:52 Comment on this story RAMSGATE chairman Richard Lawson thinks Jim Ward would be perfect for Margate – but he can't see it happening. Blues are searching for a new boss after Mark Butler quit the club last week. Ward has won trophies galore during a 20-year career in management, including back-to-back Kent League and Ryman 1 titles with Ramsgate. He followed that by leading Rams to the Ryman Premier play-offs and winning the Isthmian Cup in 2008. But he's always been overlooked for the top job at Hartsdown Park. Lawson said: "Margate want local people so I'd think Jim would be the ideal candidate but it would be up to Jim and his conscience whether he would go there. "If they were ever going to take Jim I think it would've been a couple of years ago, when we were on the crest of a wave, but I'm not so sure now. "I know it rankles with Jim that he's never been asked before, being the most successful manager from this area possibly ever." This story

Paul H
Look at the players we would get if Wardy came. Shultz for one. Never thought i'd be pro Wardy but I think only he can get our club out of this mess. I'll tell you what, some Sunday league clubs are run better that Margate FC. Margate FC have gone from bad to worse. I don't come up anymore because I play Saturdays and in all honesty, I don't miss it!!! However Margate FC has been a large part of my life in the past and once apon a time I was passionate about the club. These days I'm fed up with constantly reading about the clubs bad fortunes. Maybe one day things will get better but too much has happened for me to come back short term. I expect many other supporters have lost faith which is why crowds have dwindled. Anyway I hope things turn around. Pagey
