KIngstonian 2 - Billericay 1

Someone may as well give an opinion on the game and it may as well be me.

We started brightly, putting the home team under pressure and had a few chances to take the lead but for a couple of close misses and a clearance off the line. There was some real effort in the first 20 minutes from the lads and we did boss the midfield. Again, a lack of disipline around and in in the box led to what was a clear cut penalty and there was no mistake from the Kingstonian striker to put the home side one up. I would stress, this was against the run of play.

There are those, which I can be included, that thought the players would not come back from this (there have been examples this season) but the team after a short period of domminace from the home side, we got back onto our game...but in the main, the first half fizzled out.

In the second half, it was very much like the first. We dominated the midfield and reduced the home side to relying on breaks, which our defence coped quite well. The pressure we put their goal under paid dividends when headed Kersey headed the ball from a corner and the ball took a wicked deflection from one of the home sides elbow and beat the keeper. It was a deserved goal. what happened from there is a bit of mystery....

Kingstonian broke from one of our (many) attacks and Wild brought one of their men down. A free kick was awarded and a wall (?) was contructed....and then disappeared, allowing the ball to sail into our net, through the hole that was left. I can't work out how that was allowed to happen and I am sure there will be different accounts as to why, depending on who you talk to but the bottom line is, it was another mistake.

From there, we got back onto our game. We continued to dominate in midfield and again, reduce the home side to breaking from defence and chances were created. Unfortunately, a all too ferquent story of our season, they were not tucked away.

I don't subscribe to some people's opinion that there was a lack of effort. Yes, we did, at times, give the ball away cheaply (another issue of this season) but not as much as we had done in the past. I thought the players played well enough for a draw to be a fair result. But for two mistakes, we were good enough to win the damn game. I do question the lack of subsitutions though and would've liked to have seen Matt Hall on at some time during the second half and perhaps Cleaver to give something extra as regards pace up front....but maybe it was thought that it would break up the pattern of play (we were putting the home side under pressure). I really don't know.

We have probably, our most important game tomorrow evening, if the game goes ahead. If we win....and the results go our way, we could find ourselves back out of the relegation zone. I for one will be there and supporting the team. It's a long way to go not to.

The fact that is has taken two days for anyone to post about the game sort of sums it up for me.

On Saturday, the few that made the journey saw the same old story. We huffed and puffed, with very little quality and were unlucky to lose the game. We witnessed yet another high flying team look very average and struggle to get the better of our Midfield and defence. We also once again saw the season long problem of lack of a goal scorer with Danny Green having two of the best chances and not finding the net. Complete frustration from most of the travelling fans as we witness a ridiculous challenge inside our own box for the penalty and then see the case of "the wall that was not a wall!" for the second goal. No substitutions from BS, complete lack of leadership on the pitch, periods of mundane boredom and a miserable hour and quarter journey back home. I wonder why our following has dropped so much!!!???

On Sat the majority of us got behind the lads but at the end emotions did spill over after Captain inconsistant didn't take nicely to a couple of peope shouting, "it aint good enough blues!", wicked words which were clearly too much for him to take! I to will attend the game at Margate and will get behind the team but I fear our numbers may dwindle even more as we stutter towards the brink!

This is most unusual, as in the past the only words I've ever heard Cousins utter are 'Heads' or 'Tails'. BS obviously likes Cousins and will not remove the captaincy from him. It is decisions like this that leave us in the situation we are. Letting go the spine of our team since his inception has ripped out the heart of the club. Give him a few more weeks and relegation will be guaranteed. Job done Statham!

We lost the game because we conceded two shockingly bad goals and were unable to take enough of the chances that we created. I thought we created more going 4-4-2 and the defence didn’t seem unduly weakened as a result of the change. I was surprised we didn’t make any changes, especially in the last 10 minutes.

Personally I can’t fault the effort and commitment from the players over the last couple of months and that includes the number 3. For me, hearing some supporters having a go at the players is very disappointing, although they shouldn’t really react. If players are apparently “not good enough” then I don’t see how that is their fault.

Managers are judged on results – or at least they should be. The budget is lower so our expectations should be lower. We have been bottom four all season. If we now have the fourth worst budget in the league, then the Manager has achieved a par performance…….

By the way, what a fantastic signing Lee Kersey has been for our team.

Tomorrow night is what’s known as a genuine 6-pointer.

A well constructed post from jl. As always

Firstly BTFC's season is not over yet, we have a few more holes to complete before we know if its a par finish or not, We've some catching up to do though, to many bogeys so far.

The players are feeling the pressure, just like everyone else. That pressure is increased with the weight of 18 teams and critical supporters on their back. I'm sure there's a number of players who wouldn't fancy crossing the white line in a Billericay shirt at the moment.

And jl, I get your drift, yes, Lee has been outstanding,

Our support is decimated.

If current trends continue, then there will be no-one left to criticise them.

Yep, the more doom and gloom we spread, the lesser our numbers.

Didn't we beat Kinstonian at home 6-1 a few seasons ago? They could have taught us a lot if we had been willing to learn.

Ryan, you are one of our top supporters and have my utmost respect :applaus: (most of the time anyway  )

I made the journey at the weekend and agree with the theme of the above posts. However, I would say that after the full time whistle I was up near where the players left the pitch and the comments clearly seemed to hurt the players. Their shoulders physically slumped. At the same time I appreciate that those comments were made by fans who travel all over following their team and so are entitled to their opinions. I am just passing on what I saw.

I can't make the Margate game tonight, so COME ON YOU BLUES!
