Dear Mr Deaner,

Tomorrow is Saturday and it will then be just four weeks until Slough Town Football Club is due to play its first match in the Ryman Division One South League on 16th August. We are supposed to have a ground sharing arrangement with Windsor and Eton, which you promised you would fund. The Chairman of Windsor and Eton has indicated that the balance of the money is due to be paid by 1st August, but that he will let the team play if it is not. But that is no way for Slough to do business - so please can you tell us if the money will be paid and when?

Secondly, it appears that Eddie Denton has been conducting training for a number of players, but it seems that there are not enough of them to meet the team's commitments to field eleven fit players plus substitutes. Eddie is to be applauded for his action as he is not the manager as far as we know. Do you have any plans in place to appoint a manager, even if it is Eddie, and to ensure that we have enough players in place to meet our league commitments? If so, when will this be achieved so that the team has enough time to train before being thrown into the action of the league?

Slough Borough Council have made you an offer of some land, (admittedly less than you requested), on which to proceed with your proposed development. What is your reaction to that offer? Is it something you would be prepared to work with, or is it a non starter, in which case if I heard you correctly at the meeting, attended by a large number of Slough Fans at Wexham Park some weeks ago, that you would pay the money to fund the ground share, hand over to the Supporters Association and walk away. What exactly is the current situation in regard to this?

You also said at the meeting that FRUS Ltd would be reconstituted as Slough Town Football Club Limited and the club of that name was being dissolved to enable this to happen. I see from the Companies House website that the latter part of this has happened. On top of that, I have just downloaded the last set of accounts for FRUS Ltd from Companies House, made up to 30th June 2002, which were sent to them on 1st July 2003 by Jonathan Freese, and these do not make for happy reading. Exactly what progress has been made on the financial situation and that change and do you intend to go ahead and make it? If so, when?

I am sure that you are aware that the club's fans have been getting ever more anxious about this situation - I think most people can take bad news or good news, it is this eternal not knowing which makes the situation intolerable.

So, Sir, do one really good thing, just tell us the truth - do we have a football club for the next season or not? I am sure that the Ryman League and other football bodies have some deadlines for certain actions, which if they are not met will lead to Slough Town being expelled from the league and other competitions. Failure to pay the ground share rent may be another reason for expulsion, so we may have less time than we think.

Please tell us now, and don't leave it for us all to find out from the Press after the event, that it has all collapsed. In all decency, if you cannot make the commitments necessary, then give the Slough Town Supporters Club Committee an opportunity to salvage what they can out of the wreckage. If you can, then what good reason can there be for not telling us at this late stage?

Yours sincerely

Andrew Strathdee
