my say......(first ever post)

Although a long time reader of this forum, this is my first ever post! I first started to go to games with my Grandad in the Dr Martyn league games (i think that was its name). was there the night we achieved promotion against Newport County (again i hope i remember correctly!!) and other than a brief break from it during the Ashford "home" games days, have been to most home games on a regular basis.

just wanted to say how disappointed i am that Mark Butler has left, i really felt he was in it for the long-term and would , eventually, sort out the playing side of our club. wen Yorath left, i wasnt suprised or overly disappointed as I felt it was always going to happen at some point. but yesterdays news is a major disappointment!! Butler clearly knew what he was doing, he knew the league and was getting the team playing better in patches. yes the 2nd half performance against Hendon was ridiculous, bad bad defending, but if Lacy doesnt have a mad moment we win the game. anyone could see that once that game was 2-1, our players heads dropped, body language changed and Hendon were always going to win. the Wealdstone performance was a marked improvement, especially the 2nd half with some nice passing football played.

I cant really see how a different manager can do any better than Butler would have done, as there are still some players who are not good enough -although the team has got better -albeit with a poor bench on Tuesday night. a new manager will not be able to bring 11 players in and get rid of 11 players, so nothing much will change. we need a big, strong, rough centre back, who can win headers, rough people up, win tackles and get everyone else up for it. Wheatley and Young as a back 2 looked worrying. even Groombridge didnt do much for me.

one, possibly the only, good thing i can see at the moment about Butler going would be that Jack Haverson returning to the team, a good Yorath signing, always impressed with him, looked a class act, can play on the floor and win headers. Wheatley looked badly out of his depth on Tuesday, was almost embarrasing for him. anyone know why Haverson has been left out so much?

sorry is that was too long a post, but felt it was about time i joined in the forum debates!

havent been to many games this season as i now live nowhere near margate but imo both haverson and wheatly are not good enough for first team places and it is due to players like this we finished in the bottom 4 last season. However reports on haverson this season when he has played have been quite good so maybe he has improved.

Hopefully we get in a manager that gives a sh*t about the club. dont no the true reasons y MB left but no matter what people say, if he had cared about the club he wouldnt have left at such a critical time in the season. As mentioned in other threads, he made such an improvement to the team (although not reflecting in results yet) and im sure we would have stayed up if he had stayed. Lets hope the team carry on playing the way MB got them to (ie: first half hendon) and we will stay up!!

Welcome Dom. Good post. I always liked the look of Haverson and certainly would give him the nod over Wheatley but then others will probably say different - its all about opinions after all. I think having JK back to organise the defence maybe in sweeper role a la Billy Edwards will make a difference - it certainly worked in the Maidstone away match. I dont think the problems are all due to our defensive inadequacies though - we have been scoring but still lack strength presence pace and finishing ability up front - we are too lightweight in that department (in fact in all areas) and dont have the ability to "bully" teams in what are often very physical encounters. We show flashes of skilful attacking play at times attractive to watch but lack quality in the final third of the pitch. Here's hoping for a quick managerial appointment and keep the faith (yes, I know its hard)!

I agree with you Dom about Haverson. Far better than Wheatley, I still can't understand why he was sent out on loan. I would love to see him back.

Was not wanted because of his wages compaired to Wheatleys, I think MB would have loved him on the bench or in the squad, especially recentley, but the remit was to reduce the budget, I hear he was forced to make players try and leave, must have been difficult.

Heard this was the case with Lewis and (Harwood against his will)

Unwanted players on contract, wanted manager not given one????? Maybe thats why he felt unwanted, doing all the dirty work without security, would it of hurt??

Errr Haverson is not on loan, MB did not think he was good enough so banished him to Reserves where he has come of the bench a few times.

We do need a mature centre half and yes Luke is sometimes out of his depth, What people seem to forget is the lad is still young( though he has played for Margate for teens of years, this is his 3rd season as a 1st squad player) and should not be a regular first team member. He should be drifting in and out of the 1st's match day squad playing regular games for the reserves with the odd first team run out. Coming into the team on the odd occasion is no good for the kid with out regular match minutes in the 2nd's. No good for the club and no good for him. Someone in Lukes position could only benifit from a solid experienced coleague/teacher. Don't lets waste this kids talent, if things at the club were settled then maybe he would be out on loan in the kent league or perhaps out at Whitstable in the capable hands of Mark and Paul.

At a different level did David Moyes or Fergie throw in Rooney to sink or swim, did Arsene Wenger place Theo Walcott straight into the lions Den, no they nurse/d them along.

So should we with ours.

As for Jack Haverson I will keep my own council on that subject.

But didn't you have him, didn't play him (much) & then he returned to us?.

No Cookie Ramsgate had him on a months loan but for the first 2 weeks he was getting back into playing after sitting on the bench for Margate for 6 weeks so had 20 mins here and there.

As soon as he played and Ramsgate showed an interest in keeping him he was called back.

Blueblood you are absolutely right about Luke. Although this is only his second season with the first team squad not his third. Lets hope we can get back to some kind of stability and have that someone who can guide Luke and the other youngsters we have coming through at this important time for them.
