Ashley has started 12 competative games (this season) 7 of which we lost, Those 12 games inc a run of 9 starts in 10 matches.

Statistics can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Useful in highlighting possible issues, but never tell the full story. You need more delicate tools than an Abacus and Sledgehammer to decide what areas really need attention, in my opinion.

I'm a Dumas fan, but I do accept that he didn't get off to the best of starts under his new manager. When he was on top of his game his mobility, vision and ability to pass the ball accurately were great assets to the team which I believe we now lack in that position. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, he couldn't flourish under the current set-up so it's probably best for both parties that he moves on.

I suspect Simon Thomas is capable of a lot more than he delivered for us, although he's not yet made much of an impression at the county town by the look of things. Time will tell, and unlike us they have the time.

Rupert - Are you the full ticket???

Paul shave was a player that played with his heart on his shirt but was truly dreadful. I can't believe you can think that such a player is what is needed now.

Did you attend Hornchurch at the start of the season when Shavesie was playing for them? It was embarassing, he didn't get near the ball and was then subbed off!!

Yes I agree we lack some authority, HEIGHT and guts in midfield but Shave is most def not the answer!

I think on this seasons management performance Barry should be updating his CV and getting it ready cause surely whether we stay up or not this clown has to be put out of his misery.

Of course Rick, the statistics I quoted can indeed be turned on their head, but I had no real point to make other than Ash had a run Nine in Ten,....... Eight of those *Straight off

*I would have put consecutive if I could spell it...

You have got to realise you are near the bottom of the league for a reason. It is ok having good ball players in the side when you are playing on nice pitches against teams that let you play (for example darford) but you need to have a plan b against the not so gifted sides who work hard (for example aveley). In these games you need players like shavesy who will win the battle and cause problems. If i am correct you were struggling last year until shaves come back and nearly single handedly saved you from almost going down and picking up a couple of player of the month awards.

Yes i agree he may not be best technically but aleast he can put himself about and wind up the more gifted players in other sides. You could do alot worse than signing shaves back.

I have no doubts that Shave worked hard, but that is not the issue this season.

The majority of games this season, the overall perspective on this forum has been that the players have huffed and puffed but the ability isn't quite there.

Quite how Shave would change that is beyond me.

I'm back to my original question of for whom you would swap Shave?

All 4 of the midfielders put in just as much effort, but are technically far superior than that muppet.

And as for the comment of "wind up the more gifted players in other sides", are you real?

First of all, who on earth wants that anyway, and second, you can't really do that from the sidelines during a suspension.

And re comments about leaving for personal reasons, presumably his personal situation is the reason that he adopts the out-and-out thuggery approach seen at Maidstone and Concord in particular.

"Baazza, When you go to Kingstonian on Saturday, with Hall, Pond, Shinn and Green, you just might wish you had Shavesie with you. "

Really? Really? Really? Nope- how ever hard I try there isn't a suitable response to this without involving the moderators.

If you're looking for another stand up night at New Lodge, get Rupert on the list...

Your midfield may be far superior to shavesy but at least he nicks a goal. When shavesy returned at the back end of last year did he not pick up maybe 1 yellow and saved your season, so he can control himself.

I am not saying shavesy would come back and walk into your team i am just saying he wouldnt be a bad option to have within the squad as he gives something different.

The hysteria on this website particularly regarding Paul Shave shows that our club is in a difficult position. We have gone from periodic playoff contenders to relegation candidates. If we have class players then why are we in the relegation zone ? Either they are not performing or the management are not motivating them, either way we are still in the relegation zone.

Talking about Paul Shave is a nonsense, even if he was huffing and puffing away in midfield it would not make any difference. Our statistics show that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with our set up at the back and even in midfield. But it is bloody hard to score goals without strikers !! It is a shame that Billy has been injured because he was in excellent form and I am sure that had he stayed fit we would be clear of relegation , but the facts are that we have had to sustain our attack with james Baker almost as a lone striker. James is a talented player, he holds the ball up well, is a good header and works 100%. BUT he is not an out and out goal scorer ( as his record clearly shows) and needs to play with a fast striker who can feed off him and stick it in the net.

Obviously the management are struggling to find this elusive striker but it seems to me over the years that our "wonderkids" from the reserves have always gone out on loan never to be seen again. Now I don't really know how capable either Cleaver or Marsh are but just for once it would be nice to see our management give somebody a go for a whole game. It may be that with the hard work and guile that James puts in that we may even be able to nick a goal or two and develop a new superstar.

So lets forget this hysteria about Paul Shave, its all a total waste of time, and concentrate on scoring some goals with a 4-4-2 formation.

Hi Richards,

Just read you post and thought it only polite to reply.

Your obviously not a shavinio fan, but credit where it's due he did sort us out last season.

I agree about our up and coming reserve players being sent out on loan and that's the end of them,

But we do have a few lads that rise above the rest and should be given the benefit of doubt. Personally Paul shave (who i'm a fan of) does the job when required (he does what he is asked to do)

But looking at what we have at the moment there is IN MY OPINION one flaw. No real leader on the pitch. (This by the way would not be shave,se smilewinkgrin.gif) would it not be an idea to ask the team (without consequence) who they think it should be?

I have already been sent a message asking me not to pursue this leaderless line, so there must be some agenda in this!

Regardless of who "the management" choose

I think its time they and us all started working together to get us (no I in team) out of the bottom and heading to the dizzy heights of the league.

(i.ve waited all night to get back on the internet so i hope this post's)

totally agree with richards on this one, its time to go to what every fan wants 4-4-2 we aint barca who play 4-3-3 or Arsenal who play 4-5-1 we are billericay! who play 4-4-2 and win games through honest hard work !

so come on BS lets see a proper formation with 2 strikers upfront who can give the team a chance to score goals - lets stop being on the back foot defending when we do go a goal up and as Richards said

"lets give the up and coming players a go", what have we got to lose?wtf.gif

B-B, feel free to give your opinion, thats what this forum is for. personaly I dont agree, I think Cous has been a good Captain, I wonder what those who stand nearer the defensive line think.

A little information that may further this interesting debate. we are currently operating on the smallest budget we have had since I joined the club 7 years ago. and it is half of what it used to be.

Also, Brian is the only Manger to not have asked for further funds to strengthen the squad when things are not working out. He understands where we're at, and gets on with it.

TC,

Out of interest would you know or suspect if that sort of budget reduction is also occuring at the majority of RPL clubs? In other words, is our spend relative to other clubs the same or lower? And does that mean that the average wage for an RPL Player is also "half of what it used to be".

Or is our situation down to our own particular circumstances?

Well that depends on which team Rick, some are spending less and some are spending more.

The current ecomimic climate has had an impact on most clubs, but I beleive our situation is most definitely down to our own particular circumstance, and its not relative to the majority of RPL clubs.

Thanks for that, TC. It puts into perspective what a good job's been done putting together a team that, on its day, is good enough to defeat the bigger spenders in this league.

If only we had a bit more depth up front.

Or, putting together a side which is currently on a collision course with Ryman Division One (North). I struggle to find the "good job" bit whilst sitting in the relegation zone!

Spot on Rick, we lack strength in depth. It would be nice if we could just go out and strengthen but thats just not possible.

And having witnessed events of the last Four days, it saddens me to say that certain sections of our club are going to get their wish

Who was it that said,"Be careful what you wish for you just might get it.
