Mark Butler resigns as manager

Disastrous news. I'm certain, with time, MB would have led us up the leagues and turned us into a strong force in non-league football again. The club needs some consistency but, unfortunately, I can only see this downward spiral continuing. Despite getting to as many games home and away as I possibly could have, I agree with Michael that my enthusiasm is dwindling somewhat. Who knows, it may well return next year when we have some new grounds to visit: leatherhead, walton casuals, anyone.....?

Who's to say the guy would have stayed around that long, didn't show much loyalty to Ashford when a supposed better offer came along and wasn't it stated at his welcome meeting (which he didn't attend) that he didn't want to sign a contract originally.

All this talk of how he was gonna take us soaring to new heights is merely conjecture and most of which was also said of TY (a manager with vastly more experience than MB)

This is only my personal opinion so try not to get too upset by it MB fans.

I think 7 years at Ashford shows a little bit of loyalty, don't you Brickie?

I can`t believe that we have decided just like that to let MB go , as some people have stated over a period of time he would have got us to where we all want to be and the only people that are to blame are the board . If you look back at the last few managers who decides to appoint them who tell them that this is how much you can have to spend and who tells them this is what the future of the club is going to be Answer the board . It all has to start at the top and works its way through the ranks all the way down to the little surporters like us that help to pay for the club to run . Im not being hipocriticle of any of the board but for once they seriously have to take a look at themselves and think about working together and getting this club back on its feet . Everyone is talking about stability at the club and how we are sorting ourselves out well on the pitch nothing seems to be getting sorted . On the pitch is where it all happens and why we go to see the Gate week in week out , this is the onlybit of the club we as surporters can get to look at and if its not right then how can it be right in any part of MFC .

People fans surporters call them what you want are all spilling how they feel on this forum right now , its about time that stopped and the owners of MFC started taking care of what surport they have left because there is not much surport left for them to worry about .

If Ian Oconell gets the job i pity the board member that tells him you have got this this and this good luck Ian then he don`t get nothing like he was told , will anybody dare slag him off for doing nothing on the pitch if its not working out .

Up the Gate .

Question is who, on the Board, voted for Butler & who voted against him ? Just an idle theory but, going back to Barry Ashby, wasn't he signed by Directors when Piper & Page had resigned from the Board? He got little or no support from them when the remaining three Directors resigned & they took back the reigns (when Barry was presented to the fans, didn't KP decline to take part in the open meeting?). KP then went on to appoint a Director of Football and, at the first opportunity, got rid of BA & made his man the Manager

My 'conspiracy theory' is, if KP didn't vote for him - he was doomed from the start.

I totally disagree with alex that the whole board are a joke and do not have the interests of MFC at heart. Since the new board was put together the two remaining new members in RP and CE have worked hard to try and steady the ship. This was made harder with the quick departure of GW, however had it not of been for all Cliff Egans hard work in obtaining sponsorship in various ways then things off the field would be much worse. I fully agree that MFC could do with new blood at the helm, but we haven't yet had anyone with sufficient funding to replace or support who we all ready have. Until such time that that happens we all as loyal MFC supporters should get behind our team and back the club. Only by doing this can we progress forwards. Yes we do have a long rocky mountain to climb to return to where we once were, but with all our support including some of the exiles hopefully returning to help improve gates MFC can rise to the challenge and once again become successful. Success will bring in bigger crowds, improved finance and hopefully new sponsers, but we all have to work together to help achieve that goal.

Nice sentiment MM - unfortunately on this forum I think your words may be falling on deaf ears :(

What did happen with Keister?

Allegedly something to do with Dover wanting Ben Clarke and Keister being Ex Dover etc ........ More worrying I think is that apparently Wayne Wilson was asked to take the team for this saturdays game !! What is he, mid twenties . Whatever next ???

Fair enough, i didn't neccesarily point my finger at one person, at the end of the day the board are a collective they should be working together and if there are 2 people who aren't working with the others then there is not a togetherness with the board. Not saying there is or there isn't, no one knows that one. My point is that no one can be singled out imo. Also i have to say i'm sick and tired of hearing the whole cliche phrase that has become at hartsdown park of 'Lets stay behind the board' (in whatever different phrase people like to say it in) but quite frankly thats what we have been doing since HDP was demolished and look where we ar e now. Still no proper stadium, a club in dire financial need and a club struggling against relegation in the Ryman Premier. Now i know the current board aren't to blame for everything here, but they've been here for the majority of the time and things have not been resolved.

I appreciate people rather be positive instead of negative, which yeah does work, but at the same time to the onlooker who it may concern it could well read to them 'Oh dear I really did not do aswell as i should have done, but it's ok everyone is fine with it' opposed to 'Ok lets prove all my critics wrong.' This example does mainly seem to realate to a player and if he can't take the criticism why play football? But the example (re-worded of course) could easily be said about the board. It is almost like we are forgiving them for constantly making mistakes and allowing them the capacity to make even more mistakes. I'm not knocking the positive clan here, but this is how i see things.

Honesty is always the best policy and these are my honest opinions

The way us fans have been treated by the club over the last 6 years has been nothing short of a disgrace. Judging by the angry reactions by many to this latest amongst a catalogue of severe setbacks we are now saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Many of us (including me from now on) are voting with their feet now and have stopped going to games and who can blame us. A ramshackle of a ground still, a board full of false and broken promises and a standard of play and results that have deteriorated season on season and the wway that the club is being run (56 players already this season including 8 different goalkeepers) And before the rose tinted lily livered pro Piper brigade pipes up I have been a supporter who has regularly attended games for over 30 years and was a regular at Dover and Ashford when we were forced into a nomadic existence! I will still follow our progress from a distance and wish the next incumbent the very best of luck in running the team cos he sure as hell is gonna need it!
