WelshBob
The remark was aimed at DR btw who tried to be funny but failed. Fully agree with Wellsie. Mark Butler has received a slating on here recently but say anything against the board and people get all defensive. MB must have had good reason to quit. Especially as he was already secure when he took the job.

Wasnt trying to be funny, just intrigued as to what if anything you can bring to a sensible debate from fans that actually turn up to watch their local/favourite team - being as in your own words you havent been there for ages saving a fortune. Try keeping up!!!!
WelshBob
I was trying to bring something to the debate. Why is it ok to slag the manager off on here but mentioning the board's inadaquacies seem to be not open for debate. MB gave up something relatively successful to come here remember. Iris's Tea Hut
I can't believe that he would walk out solely as he didn't have a contract, more that he probably wanted the reassurance one would bring. No matter what happened this year, even the dreaded 'R', it is what happens closed season when the budget is sorted for next term and he could really build his squad and show his mettle. Therefore i find it hard to believe that a compromise couldn't have been found until we know the shape of things to come for next year. I would also suggest that the bit in the Your Thanet article He leaves alongside assistant manager Steve Beeks suggests they've both gone. wo superb footballing minds gone. Good luck to both of you in all you undoubtedly achieve, wherever it may(dstone) be. :Kick_Can_emoticon:
Marathon Man
Welsh Bob , i dont agree with all of your posts, however everyone is entitled to their opinions. I do however have trouble understanding how you can say you have saved a fortune and have not had to watch c**p football. MB is a manager with a proven track record at this level. He came to MFC and through no fault of his own inherited a squad of players that TY had put on contract, despite them getting us relegated last season. MB has moved some players on and new and IMO better players have arrived. Over the last 4 or 5 games i have witnessed MFC play some of the best football i have seen MFC play for years, however for some reason the players haven't been able to perform to that level for 90 minutes. I fully accept that results haven't gone our way but i believe had MB been given time he would have got a proven goal scorer to join us. I do however agree with some of your comments regarding the board. We seem to have a board that give the manager a budget, results don't go our way, the manager is asked to cut his budget which he does, making things harder to improve the situation. The manager then resigns, why we don't know at this stage. Has he been asked to cut the budget even further which would mean an even smaller squad, thus almost making it impossible to avoid relegation. It is almost as though we want to tie the managers arms behind his back and his feet together to make coaching the side just that little bit harder. Under MB the team have played entertaining football without getting results. The difference is that we became use to winning under CK, but on reflection this was nearly always by the odd goal and we played route one football the big hoof up field, i will give CK his due though he teams knew how to defend. The support is dropping but the real true loyal MFC supporters are still turning up week in week out and will continue to do so in order to support mfc. If a few more of the so called MFC supporters that are staying away, returned and continued to watch and support the club with their gate money then things could improve, as this would give the club extra revenue which in turn provides a bigger playing budget. Yes the manager, board and players have to take their responsibilty for their respective failings but the TRUE Cause of failure IMO lays with the so called supporters that TURN THEIR BACK on the club they claim to support when things get tough and results don't go our way. Whoever is in charge next good luck, I for one will still be attending to watch games and support the club i have supported since 1965. I would have given him a contract. he was worth every penny. MummyBunny and I am Spartacus

Porka
Who knows what the situation was with Keister, but if it came down to a straight choice between Keister and Butler I'd have given Butler my backing every single time. I wish him all the best in the future and I'm sure he'll go on and enjoy success somewhere else. I'm stunned that the club thought it was "too early" to offer him a contract. They're football people surely? Have to say Geoff, we're going nowhere fast if this continues. Crazy.
blue balls
We are the laughing stock of Kent football! Our board is a complete joke. Surely a compromise like a short term contract at least until the end of the season could have been agreed. Now we are back to square one. Without offering a contract we won't get anyone half decent to take the job on! (Please not those clowns from Maidstone, either)!
michael
Disastrous news imo. Can't really add to what Porka and GP have posted. Have been of a very sunny disposition this season;but frankly, i also now join the 'we will now be relegated camp' Was coming down to the billericay game, and have supported from afar through think and thin-and i'm sure always will-but at moment-seriously thinking-why bother next tueday night. If i feel like that- even though distance precludes me from getting to many home games-you can understand how support is dwindling from some transient local supporters. (As i type-i read that Steve beeks is logged on-nice interview ,thanks, and all the best ) Edited February 10, 2010 by michael
Boney Crisp
Right, my theory is this. Mark Butler resigned because he was having problems with the board in some form or another. People have said that the club are a joke, i disagree. The whole board as a collective are a joke, they don't have the clubs best interests at heart and just care about pounds. We need someone new to step in otherwise the comings and goings of managers will be a regular occurance as will the winding up orders. I honestly don't think we will get a better manager in then Mark Butler, especially when you consider the situation we are in right now. Best of luck though to Mark Butler. CK anyone?? Franny
I heard tonight that , MB wasnt overly impressed with the backing or lack of it that he got over the Keister debacle (I think we all know the gist of what happened there), plus one or two other things. And it seems in an attempt to establish some sort of backing from the board he asked for a contract of some description, I suppose its a case of back me or I may as well go. It seems the latter was the outcome. A shame if you ask me as I dont think you'll get a much better manager at this level, although I think he may have underestimated how hard it might be to attract decent players to a club and location like Margate without the luxury of an extravagant budget. It seems the contract debate may have cost us another manager as I remember hearing at the time that after a contract that was promised to a player didnt materialise TY felt the need to resign. Lets just hope the players can add a bit of resolve to the decent football we've been playing just lately.
Wellsie
I think the polarisation of views here is interesting. I don’t think Mark wanted to leave and I don’t think the club wanted to recruit another manager – particularly now. Sometimes, these things happen; people can’t agree on an issue, a particular deal, in which case the parties part. It’s also often in both parties’ interests for details to remain confidential. In this case, Mark will I’m sure want another job in football and the club want to encourage high quality candidates for the position. And don’t forget the backdrop here of the financial climate and the squeeze on club resources following an unprecedented number of postponements. There were also a number of issues that Mark inherited that have proven to be difficult to resolve. All that must raise the stakes for everyone concerned. I really enjoyed working with Mark and my sense was that supporters appreciated his openness and honesty in his assessment of performances on the pitch. And while I do think it’s a shame that Mark felt unable to continue in the role, I know it’s not a decision he took lightly.
