Thatcham 0 - WEFC 0

Was it as dull a game as the result?

Were we unlucky, or woeful, or victims of circumstance? Did Thatcham get everyone behind the ball and defend for 90 minutes? I assume we didn't try that, anyhow...

enquiring minds who were stuck with all-day childcare would like to know.

A fair result with defences generally in control. Played OK against a very competitive and to be euphemistic once more physical side. I know their keeper Strudley through work (he's an auditor) and he was top notch. Thatcham were a good side unbeaten in six and Bullivant and the defence were kept busy. Not an especially eventful game, Chennells a couple of chances for Windsor. Thatcham's fans were a particularly whiny bunch and I was glad to get out of there.

The game was poor, if anything at full time we did well to come away with a point. Not our greatest performance but I am sure Scotty will pick the team up and we will perform better next time.

Jake made a hell of a diffferenc when he came on and Gavin looked good too,so a few positives from the game

Fairly even game with both teams having chances. Their goalkeeper made some good saves. Jake came on as sub and we started to come back into the game towards the end. Not much else to write but still undeafeated and kept another clean sheet. Also the Thatcham goalkeeper said hope we go up and not Totton. It was good to see Gavin Smith back as well.

To be fair i thought the thatcham defence was solid and didn't give our strikers anything to feed off. I wasn't all that impressed with Marcus Richardson Yesterday and judging by the comments coming from Scotty i don't think he was either. Its a pity Nathan Jack was injured he could have made a difference. Would just like to mention the great save made by Rob in the second half and the terrific goal line clearance by Scott Thomas on the floor with his chest. Looking on the bright side with Jake and Gavin back a better performance expected next week.

There is a history of bad blood between the towns of Thatcham & Totton, and it dates back to the Napoleonic wars.

In the year 1810, Boney's forces landed at Totton. The whole of England was, quite frankly, outraged at this turn of events, and everybody rushed down to repel the hoards of murderous frogs.

Everybody except the people of Thatcham.

They refused to help, because it clashed with their annual village bring & buy sale.

The people of Totton have never forgotten this, and every year, on the anniverary of the invasion, they burn an effigy of Thatcham's most famous resident....Rodney Bewes.

The sale of bric a brac is also illegal in Totton.

The good people of Thatcham have responded to this by marking the anniversary in their own special way.

They begin the day with a rousing rendition of "La Marsellaise". They then burn an effigy of Totton's most famous resident...Rodney Bewes ( he moved around a lot).

They say that time heals all wounds, but sadly this feud looks set to run and run.

Good result away at a side before yesterday who were second in the form table. I'll take that. Performance wasnt our best but we got stronger as the game went on. You get the feeling if we had another 10 or so mins left we'd of got the goal. Oh well we cant win them all! Time to pick ourselves up next saturday.

I sense a slight disappointment over the 0-0 but you have to look at it as a good result one which surely we would have taken at the start. Also i know people are saying we are only 3 or five points ahead but really we are 15. Totton have to win their 4 games to be 3 points behind so the pressure is on them. The stats of W20 D5 L0 are what champions are made of and without being complacent we win this league and win it well.

So relax peoples there will be a few ups and downs but another few weeks down the line and we will be safe.

I went to the Bedfont game and have to report that our pitch is absolutely horrendous now.

It really does resemble a ploughed field. I gather the ref wanted to call it off but the teams requested it go ahead to avoid further fixture congestion.

Gosport looked a pretty decent outfit - clinical in front of goal. I'm sure some of you will already have seen them this season but they have the biggest person I have ever seen on a football pitch in goal. Must be 6'9".

As we already know Bedfont have some tricky and speedy players up front but yesterday they did look a bit clueless at the back.

To be honest at the beeginning of the week I was more concerned with our trip to VT, when we beat hem comfortably I expected much the same Saturday. We just didn't seem to get going and Thatcham looked quite useful, I guess a point after the 90 mins is acceptable, but deep down we all expected a win when we turned up.

Bring on Saturday and hope the pitch can hold out for us

With 2 tough games away from home I would have happily taken 4 points at the start of the week. Also don't forget Totton's defeat midweek means we are effectively 1 point better off over the 2 games.

I thought Thatcham were a good side. They showed why they haven't lost in the league since the end of November; they were strong at the back and looked dangerous on the break. At times our goal seemed to be living a charmed life, although as we've become accustomed to there was some great last ditch defending at the back.

As per usual we got stronger as the game went on and created a couple of decent chances in the dying minutes. In the end I think both sides were quite happy with the point.

Also despite what others were saying I though Scott Thomas was having a reasonable game. He hasn't played much recently yet some people seem to be expecting him to come into the team and perform like Pele. Give the guy a break, it’s not easy to come into the team and replace a player like Jake. Scott Thomas is a totally different type of player to Jake, just because Scott doesn’t beat 2 or 3 players everytime he gets the ball doesn’t mean he's not a good player. I thought he contributed quite a bit to the game on Saturday.

I totally agree Mrs Cat. I mentioned at the game that he was putting himself about a bit and making himself known plus the save off the line. He is more of a strong dog fighter in that position and gives us a different dynamic in that position.

I got that wrong - the ref wanted to play but some of the Bedfont lads were a bit uncertain.

I think scotty thought that Marcus wasn't winning enough headers and wasn't holding the ball up enough. He's a big strong lad but he needs to jump higher and win the headers. Their defenders seemed to be a foot or so above him every time. He wasn't getting in front of their defenders to hold the ball up either. Having said that i thought he improved a bit in the second half.

Sott Thomas has come in and done a job, not disimilar to a certain Jake Parsons when he first joined. He is young and inexperienced but improving, I was chatting to Mrs Cat about this at Thatcham and it is obvious if you come into a very well performing team you will find it tough to stand out. I would say our bench is very strong, Scot Thomas, Gavin, Rico (normally) and Pearce have all looked good off the bench and given a run of games will show get the chance ot show what they can do. Scot Thomas is unlucky that as soon as Jake is fit there is only one choice for right wing, but with a lot of games coming up he could become integral to a championship winning side.

As for the game, although I would say Thatcham were a decent outfir I thought we looked poor, jaded even. The midfield didn't create much and Chennells had very little to feed off of. But 4 points from those two games is indeed what you would take at the beginning of the week, but i do feel we are capable of winning every week, which is why I think all of us a little disappointed when we don't play to our best. I know it just isn't possible to play every week at the top of our game, but it doesn't stop me feeling a bit let down when we don't.

But last season we would have lost that game, I think we are stronger mentally and as ateam unit this year, but we shall see. Bring on Saturday and lets get ourselves back to winning ways

UTR!!!

Rother- As i understand the pitch god that is Ian Gould is apparently going to work his magic back down the meadow soon. He apparently said it wouldnt take him long to get it back into decent shape! I'm not going to doubt him whatsoever.

As for Scott Thomas he doesnt do enough to influence the game for me. Might just be his age as when we first had coyne he was invisible and slowly became a key player .Lets hope that happens with Kristen! Just dissapointed for him more than anything as it was a good chance to get a foot in whilst Jake was injured and he didnt make the most of it in my eyes.

Off Topic but if you go on the main website its great to see so many 'events' in the not to distant future. Things like those are only going to help the club. Would be nice if it wasnt just the usual faces turning up!

It is very good to see the events and unfortunately it will almost always be the same old faces to start with, but as it becomes well known we have good events on it will grow. Like everything it takes time and continued effort and support.

As for Kristen, well the last two games have been against two decent sides and he hasn't looked out of place in the team. Didn't think anyone really shone out on Saturday, possibly Fagan and maybe Rob but going forward it looked very tough. Maybe it is more of a statement of how well organised and solid Thatcham were.

I think it is time to move on and look forward not backward. A good performanceSaturday and we are back in shape, i am sure Scotty will work his magic
