IAIN O CONNEL

Let's look at the players MB has brought in...

Reed - good player

Joseph - good player

Clarke - good player

Gonnella - haven't seen enough but looks like a fringe player

Duncan and Groombridge - seem to have done OK

Jones - highly thought of

In general, i agreewith your synopsis CE;and whilst i agree MB is a good manager;i do have a continued concern that with limited funds-is MB getting the right balance of players:

Joseph,Clarke,,Jones and to a lesser extent Gonella all play similiarish rolespositions.

No target man, just one defender-just one hard man -central midfield player.

I fear for the trott days when he kept signing right wide midfield players and we had 11 players who could play wide right at one stage

IMO it probably says more for the reduced budget and time of the season. Not many important 'spine' players are gonna be available mid-season unless you pay mega bucks.

I have watched football for a good many years, at all sorts of levels, this is the first time I have been left asking questions of so many players. The performances by certain members of the Margate 1st eleven since the Cray game have left me asking, Who in the team would I want besides me in a battle? Why do I ask myself this? I have seen certain people earning good monies disappear when character has been needed to pull the team through. Yesterday was no exception.

Though I am not a great fan of Stubbsie, he is one I would take into battle, Robinson for all his laid back attitude is another, Groombridge, Duncan, Cliff, Blackman?

The attitude of others I cannot understand, though I do not know all the details, I ask why does a young man who supposedly wants to play football turn up week in week out to train, sit on the reserve bench and draw his wages? when at his age in my opinion he should be out there playing for a club, any club. one season out of competitive football is a long time and people have short memories. Like life today its about having the right CV.

After my initial disapointment that Nev did not get the jod I was happy with the boards choice, telling KP so, we had a guy with ambition who would take us forward. As you also know I have always supported the team manager through thick and thin, I have always had it drummed into me that you support your club through thick and thin. In the past I have had many altercations with SSS on here regarding this. If after hearing a comment yesterday, made during the game and, and if I heard it correctly then I am with Phil D.

After yesterdays fantastic 1st half followed by the capitulation in the 2ND I have been left asking myself why do we bother trying to fund raise. . As "Margate shot "said in the aftermath of the game, you collect £400 to support the team, whats the point it will have been wiped away by today's performance, through lost revenue from people not bothering to turn up through frustration for the game against Wealdstone on Tuesday.

i have always enjoyed having friendly discussions with everyone on this forum. i do have strong views on some things and i really believe our board have got most things wrong in the last few years it is such a crying shame how a once terrific non league club has turned into a joke.i hear we are not even allowed to sing footy songs now. LOL

First time I've been on here since yesterday's game. As utterly disappointed as I was with the awful second half performance, I still can't quite believe what I'm reading. The first half yesterday was superb: we could easily have been 4 or 5 up at half-time, playing some fantastic football at times. Granted, you should never blow a two-goal lead, but it's all work-in-progress. The people questioning the management are also probably the same people whose only 'contribution' towards a song was "2up and we fu**ed it up"..... fantastic show of support there. I have no doubt MB is the right man to take us forward, and I maintain as I have done all season that survival this year will suffice.

Unfortunately, the one thing that may hold us back is that the majority of our remaining games are at home, where every move that breaks down is met with a chorus of groans. Such pressure and expectation doesn't rub off well on the players. Let's pull together and get behind the lads on Tuesday.

first class Mike.

Here here lets all pay money to watch us capitulate in the last 45 minutes of the game, god u really talk crap sometimes. First half we were the best Ive seen for a couple of years, second half (regardless of any boos or "not to your liking comments") we were $£"*% - and I only wish I could word that properly without being censored. The team seemed to literally fall to bits after the penalty and no amount of bull is gonna deflect from the fact that MBs substitutions were neither clever nor tactical - bring on wingers for "obviously " tired strikers. If and I do mean if you wish to lick the boots of our new Manager - good on yer, but do not think that because the season is nearly over and we "MIGHT" just scrape through the relagation battle that MB will guide us to ultimate and glorious victory, cos you would be sadly mistaken. What frustrates me is the fact that certain peoples dont like the fans venting there frustration during a game that they have paid to watch, and contributed to the players and managements wages.

Now Mr Mike from the land of the tulips would you be brave enough to stand up in front of fans at every game from top flight down to grass routes who are not happy with the way there team is playing and say get behind the club or would you think to yorself, perhaps they are entitled to there opinion.

For the manager of MFC to phone up a well regarded player and ask him " what position do you play in "is unbelievable and then ask him if he wants to join Margate

Thats how high i regard Mark Butler and if you want to know which player it was ask Mark yourself as i got it from the horses mouth

90mins not 45mins

Regardless of what I, or anyone else for that matter, think re: criticism of players etc, I think we would all agree that we need to put Saturday's second half shambles behind us, get behind the lads from the first whistle on Tuesday, and try and act as that '12th man' to inspire the team to a crucial three points.

First class Dannyriding. Mike, the team had a super 1st half & I cant recall many moaning at half time only maybe about the very good chances that went-a-begging besides the 2 goals but thats how it is when your winning .

2nd half they didnt deserve any good comments & thats ALSO how it is when there is a capitulation as was yesterday.

Someone said to me how impressed they were ( he comes only occasionally). I said "dont count our chickens just yet". Wouldn't it be nice for us to be thinking more positively but I'm afraid we all know whats going to come next. Wouldn't it be nice to say "oh, we'll win this & won't give the game away",mean it & be proved right at 90 minutes having said those words

The only way they can prevent verbal assaults is to play like they did in the 1st half for the full 90 minutes.Be sure they will get their rewards if that happens.

I'm personally not too sure about MB but I'm willing to give him some more "benefit of the doubt" but unless 90 minutes effort is there from now on,not just for 45,not just when we are behind, & especially when we are in front then my patience too is going to wear thin very quickly.

MB is right when he says he has the players that CAN beat other teams & he is also right to say they don't realise just how good they CAN be. Well thats his job,to get instilled into their brains just that. Forget about a days training on the training ground get them round a table in an office somewhere & get them to open up with their thoughts to a specialised shrink. Until they get their heads sorted out we will continue to get displays like yesterdays second half. The manager needs to take control here & show some responsibilty for those bad 45 minutes, not just yesterday but as in other games.I've lost count the times this has happened especially at home & in front of a home crowd (cant get to away games because of work commitments but take into consideration reports from those games).

Too many to often I'm afraid and it needs sorted real soon or relegation will become a reality (that coming from me is a unusual thing for me to say as I have always said we will survive even if its only 5th bottom) Not only that attendances will continue to drop as they have been (cant see more than 150 turning up on Tuesday).

BUCK UP MB & BUCK UP YOU PLAYERS..

WTF... we're all pi$$ed off with the shambles of a second half but seriously

please can you give me the

games won

games drawn

games lost

stats please cause like last season we will be relying on another team to go pop to stay where we are and its another game we lost, its 90 minutes not 45

gord blimey

Ok here they are Played 14, Won 4, Drawn 4, Lost 6. Of these six losses 5 have been by the odd goal the only exception being Kingstonian where we lost 2-0 (even that game they scored second half in injury time.

I believe MB will still keep us safe once he can get some of our players to believe these games can be won!

Does anyone really think that with a different manager we would now be at the top of the league? If a different person had been appointed he would be getting just the same stick on here by now, if not worse.

It's not a full-time outfit, so there is only so much a manager can do. It is down to the players. They have the skill; we saw that for half a game on Saturday and three quarters of a game on Tuesday.

It is a case of self-discipline and self-belief. Like for example not staying up half the night when you have a match the next day. And having some backbone when the pressure is on, instead of panicking like little kids. And playing for the shirt and the fans, not harbouring grudges and sulking.

So there you go. The manager has assembled a skilful squad, and will no doubt plug the gaps when money is available. It is down to the players to show what they are made of, and that they deserve the kind of support they heard on Tuesday.

(IMHO)
