ETFC v's GWR

Enfield United

Recommended Posts

This game will be one worth watching as both teams enjoy scoring goals. From the sounds of it GWR (and Concord) have been strengthening their front men of late to try and cement a place in the play off's, GWR are also a very capable team, going by their results, looks like a real top of a table game with the promise of lots of goals. What our club/team need is the 12th man and thats for all our supporters to be cheering and supporting the side to 3 more home points. It will set us up nicely for the next games away at the improving Ware and ETU.

So the weather's milder the footballs getting better the players are performing and the two Gaffers have deserved bigger attendances, we are out there we just need to get along to the Brimmobau. Grab a mate and come along and make your presence felt.

Anyone else got views of GWR

This game ended up feling somewhat surreal. 2-1 up, the oppo down to 10 men before half time and the game should have been out of sight by the hour, it was a stroll, and I mean a stroll.

Then we get away with the oppo missing a header or more accurately headed straight into Rob Blackburnes arms from 2 yards out before the classy number 10 Neil Richmond punished us with 2 excellent finishes from 2 dire pieces of defending. GWR deserved their 3 goals but we should have had 6-7 goals, but failed to hit the target when it was easier to do so.

I'm not too gutted with the result, we are still creating chances in abundance, and Lowestoft will win the league, so the prime aim is to finish at least 5th which I believe we are very able in doing. However, a result like this highlight the cracks we have and thats the sooner Blower and Ellams are back the better and stil need a central midfielder to make us more effective.

Rudi MOM today????? Not for me i'm afraid, I do like Rudi as a person but trust me his form is wayward at the mo. My MoM today were Marks, Hammond or Wallace.

Looking forward to another tough game on Tuesday against a very much improved WARE team who beat Lowestoft on Saturday.

Rudi may have scored two penalties against possibly the smallest keeper in the division, but MOM?

Credit where credit is due, GWR never stopped running and attacking our goal and looked dangerous every time they crossed the half way line.

Our first penalty stemmed from a high ball(from a corner) into a crowded box. Anybody know why we didn't continue to do that?

All Louis in their goal had to do was pick two penalties out of his net and assist with two goals.

If you do not put your chances away, then winning becomes a lot harder to do

Gazza away yesterday - 5 goals! Shame we only got wo of them

Not a good day at the office.

When people went AWOL as Town chased the game, Rudi did not. Trust that clears that one up.

Sam Byfield DID keep putting those inswinging corners in, we just didn't take advantage/get lucky.

Thought it was a mistake to go 4-3-3 at the end, as we lost shape after Ben was subbed.

Ultimately though, it was our inability to shoot straight that cost us - not enough on target.

No need to panic though, just regroup for Tuesday and get back to doing the simple things well, as we did throughout the 8 straight wins.

Oh, and Blower and Ellams better than Lockie and Bardle? Too close to call, that one.

I dont disagree with a lot of your comments, however, Yes rudi did and always does give heart and soul to the cause but the last 2-3 games he has lost possession with careless balls and blind hoofs. Just my observation.

Bardle good going forward and a nice footballer but not a defender. Ellam's would improve the left back spot. Sorry Michael, you'll just have to prove me wrong, i'll be happy for you to do so. Lockie is doing ok at right back, but ok is'nt enough, Lockie too can maraud forward well and probably better than Blower but the first priority is to defend unreservedly and Blower can do that bit better.

Yes the balance of the team went AWOL with Ben coming off and us playing with a lop sided 4-3-3. I'm a great admirer of the way Liam Hope plays and he is effective. A large part of his game is knocking in the bread and butter goals and he's dried up of late, so unless Ben had an injury I would have taken Liam off instead (just like v's Harlow and if we needed to chase the game then throw Kirby up front for his strength and passing ability.

So lots foe Steve and del to ponder over but we'll have to be ruthless against an improved WARE team on Tuesday. Win that and Saturday can be looked at as a blip in the season.

I tend to agree with the above - we need to be more clinical - we made more than enough chances to win the game at a canter, but it was one of those days where nothing seemed to go our way up front. That said, I couldn't for the life of me see what our first penalty was for. Also, GWR kept running, and took the chances that we gifted them, so fair play to them.

I'm a big fan of Lockie and Bardle, both of them are good footballers, look to support play and attack, and work hard defensively, I'm not sure we need to improve on them to be honest (although Ellams and Blower are very good defensively). For me, Rudi did well, but seemed to tire a bit towards the end on what looks to be a heavy pitch, but I can't fault his performance. My MoM would have been Kirby, he reads the game well, won his share of headers against Trenkell, who is a massive aerial threat, and has the composure to play his way out of trouble.

Anyway, I don't think we have too many worries on that showing, as we made tons of chances, and on another day would have won. We do need to keep our heads up, and not change too much against Ware, and we should be OK.

I also would have given Rudi mom - he was always available and marauding on the edge of the area. His captaincy was also good. Adam seemed to fade in the second half and so did Ben until he was substituted. Even with ten men when Stuart came on he seemed to be covered by two men and yet the other two forwards could not find space.

Did we have 4 at the back? You could have fooled me. I thought we were the team with ten men and we ran out of puff. Have we kept up with training during that winning run?

what a shame that despite the defeat the players and management didn;t appreciate the non stop vocal support in the second half.

At least as the TOWNERS applauded GWR their players appreciated it

Anyway, did we have a midfield in this game? When we attacked the gap between the front line and mid field was MASSIVE, and when they were called on to defend they were inept

Well done GWR, that was a gutless performance by Town

dont expect more than 217 to turn up, if you continue to play like that
