Just a thought

How much would it cost for a smallish roof at the Coffin End? After the success of the player sponsorship fund raising, could we attempt a much bigger (and more long-term) drive to raise the thousands for a roof. I think the time has come to try and do something about it ourselves, and if the club do find themselves able to finally build then we could use the roof in another area of the ground.

I had the thought the other day that half the profits from the Goalden Gate could go into a seperate account and be ringfenced until we raise the cash. Of course, this might not be to everyone's tastes, not least those who pull the strings at the club. Thoughts please.

good idea , this is where Cliff Egan could be useful using his expert sales techniques . What he should do is get in touch with someone like Parker steel , they let us have say 1000mtrs of 3x3 inch box steel to build the stand cover it with corigated sheeting from Wickes then get a local builders to errect and in return give them free advertising hordings around the ground and say 3-4No free season tickets to each company that provides materials and surport .

Staines have those stands I think CE. Certainly better than nothing. But maybe Cliff could look into this a bit more as Andy says. I'm sure there's a way of getting a good deal and giving us a target to try and raise.

I've asked this one before. Can't upset the plans i think we were told. I agree with Paul though it would improve things. With a northeasterly gale and rain just about everyone would get wet!! as we have very little shelter. I've always got the blue brolly and the ol singing in the rain can still be heard.!!

Glad to hear the brolly is alive and well, Geoff!

Not so much upsetting the plans as trying to entice people back - and at the same time making things better for us. One of the most common excuses I hear is that the ground is so open to the elements. See what you mean though, but with GW gone, the club might now be thinking differently and hopefully see this idea as a go-er.

If i recall correctly, the words used by KP were expecting to make a start in the next three months (which i think took things to December ).

I remember afterwards thinking that iwished i had asked what specifically was meant by 'making a start', which i think many took to mean building something-whereas in my more cautious mode i took it to mean anything from building ,to 'i will pick up the phone and order the form to fill in for a planning variation'.

Both are forms of starts !!

That aside-i always thought it a bit crazy to start something in mid winter;and have no problem with a delay.

Above all- i am amazed that funding is supposedly there still;and if it is seriously delayed-always disappointing - but more than understandable in my eyes-.

As ever-a simple honest update would be appreciated.

Equally agree with the idea of 'temporary terracing ' which i also think cost about £6500 (plus probably £1000 for groundworks) but you can sometimes get 'second hand temp. terracing ' for £2500.-maybe even on ebay .Probably need at least 2-which upon permanent development could then be moved to the 'dressing room side '

Hi Michael,

I remember seeing second hand ones advertised in the Non-League football paper that comes out on Sunday.
