ENFIELD TOWN V HARLOW TOWN

No one I spoke to could remember him ever missing before. He's had a couple saved, yes, but never missed the target in my memory.

All in all and ugly win against a side that looked far better than their league position suggests. Especially their number 7 who was a constant threat. Had Liam Hope scored with the header that hit the post (and nine times out of ten, he would) it may well have been more comfortable, but as it was it took the introduction of Stuart to set up the winner. The sooner he is fully fit the better.

Plus points for me would be the continued fine form of Wallace along with Mackay and Lockie's performances at the back. Not so impressed with Rudi today (although fair play to him for taking the second pen) as he kept giving the ball away, and I also have nagging doubts that Rob Blackburne is a bit of a weak link in goal, he certainly doesn't fill me with confidence. Also the crowd is a worry. Not entirely sure what we have to do to bring a few people back, although crowds appear to be down in general this season at a number of clubs (a lack of disposable income?).

Hey ho though, eight wins on the spin, mustn't grumble too much!

I can understand a wish to be fair however I think that Scoreline and Cold End's view of the game is a little grudging towards the Town's fine performance.

The game was a damn good game with enjoyment, passion and end to end stuff. Town's defence did look a little shaky in the first half but tightened up in the second. I thought that Harlow's tactical substitution at half time was brilliant. It was then that our midfield which, I thought, had controlled the game in the first half, started to look unsettled.

First half Harlow came out of the blocks first but faded after about 10 minutes when Town were in control with the forwards receiving the ball almost at will. The ball rarely left the Harlow half, but when it did, the pace of the front men and Blackburne's handling did cause a few heart tremors. The Harlow goalkeeper played well but it was clear that Harlow would have been happy for a point with a 9 man defence which was very difficult to break down. We dominated on the flanks but their number 5 played a storming game.

Second half. Harlow became more ambitious and seemed, especially after their goal, to be looking for both points however despite their pressure they rarely troubled Blackburn in this half and it was time for our management to make a perfect substitution. Liam played well but was given no time on the ball because of the crowded box. It was this that prevented him getting on the score sheet and the battle which will rage for the rest of the season between Stuart or Liam will add some spice to the selection. As it was Stuart was the perfect substitution and he quickly showed the number 5's frailty against pace. Towards the end Harlow tired and it was clear there was only going to be one winner.

Harlow's position in the table will improve of that I have litte doubt. They are well managed, play for each other and have some pace. Cheshunt and the rest will have to look to their laurels. It is strange that Harlow impressed me more than Thamesmead yet they are way apart in the table.

Roll on Saturday against GWR which will be a fitting prelude to the tougher games that follow. BTW we now have 8 wins on the bounce - one more on Saturday and we will equal the all time record for the club. This has been achieved twice before but the last time was over 5 years ago when we were in the Essex Senior League. So you know what you have to do on Saturday lads. NO PRESSURE

Due to other commitments this was my 1st visit to see Town play this season.

My impressions were very positive, seeing Town play a nice pass and move style of football always looking for the pace of No.10 (Wallace i think) and later on in the game looking for the lively sub (Blackburn, appologises but the only player i recognised was Rudi, i need to get used to names & faces). It was also nice to see us attacking down the flanks and trying to get some crosses in.

Harlow looked very well organised and had a very good outlet with there tricky No7 causing a few problems for the Town.

With many midweek games comming up i'm hopfull i can double or even treble my account for the season of watching the town.

One dissapointing note was the crowd of 191 (I know this is a bit rich comming from a guy who's 1st game it was last night) but Harlow must have bought 20-30 fans, there were no 'big' games on tv so a crowd of 191 for a 'localish' derby with Harlow only 20 minutes away is a bit of a concern especially reading the programme notes highlighting the fact of dwindling numbers over the past 2-3 seasons.

Anyways it was good to see a few old faces again

On the homepage.' Lost sight of the ball in the lights'

The floodlights at the far end are awful. The centre half probably lost sight of the ball because he could not see it!

Liked the look of their number 7 who only used his left foot and tremendous pace. Thankfully he was substituted in the second half.

No one I spoke to could remember him ever missing before. He's had a couple saved, yes, but never missed the target in my memory.......

I seem to remember a game at Bowers where he hit the post, but the ref ordered a re-take, he then scored but the ref ordered another retake & he scored again this was allowed but Rudi celebrated by grabbing the ball & taking it a 4th time then got booked!

I'm sure FJ will correct me if my grey matter is failing!

Steph-Agree totally with your comments on the Harlow game. It was at times a very evenly contested game and because of it's closeness it made for an uncomfortable but exciting finale. We should have put the game to bed by half time with 2 pens liam's one on one and other Liam, Wallace opportunities.

Second half we hit the post but lost the impetous to kick on and build a lead. After harlow levelled SB came on and gave us the impact which created the winning goal. Liam was substituted but nonetheless played well and was unlucky not to score. Hopefully it'll mean he'll have a couple of goals saved for another day.

Stonecold-great you made a game (at last) and good you were impressed, although not a bad performance we have been more ruthless in pre-snow/frost games. Its promising to be an exciting end of season for us supporters til the end of the season lets hope we keep it going (I do expect us to do so) we have some good players who have real desire and hunger inside them.

As for Tuesdays attendence, 191, it was a disappointing one, but this is where as a group of supporters we need to support our team all the way to promotion. So lets put ourselves out and get along to the home game v's GWR which will be a closely contested game. So grab a mate, offer him a Goldstone Holdings drink and enjoy a game.
