Hi ...disappointed..maybe we should ground share with Watford then Tom..oh no their games off too !

The club has a good deal there so why should we move ? If it had been raining all day and yesterday this game would have

proberley been the only one on ! so its swings and roundabouts on how any ground can be effected...by the elements...

My back garden which is not in the sun ! is still rock hard..at 2-45pm

its a difficult one to call ...if players then get injured this could seriously effect our run in !

cheers chris... hope to see you all at Bedworth on Tuseday...

Or Windsor? Perhaps? Their's is on.

Last checked forum at about midday, no mention of pitch inspection etc etc, so went to ground at 2-30ish where there were loads of cars turning round and people shaking head,by then the corner looked absolutely fine, but was very unimpressed that there were no signs ANYWHERE saying it was off or anything, got chatting to some guys that had come from hitchin and chesham to watch and they were amazed it was off. real shame that we've just lost our buggest money spinner of the season to a tuesday evening game where less than half will go from Hitchin? Got a nasty feeling these hasty/wrong decisions to call of games will cost us come the end of the season.

Was it the ref that called it off?

Marcus... I managed to send text message to those who gave me there mobile phone numbers...sorry but i dont have your nania one !

any how Windsor have postponed some Bedfont Green matches already this season...and they are paying much more in rent than we are ...if your wish is required

hope you will be able to afford the difference ...I am sure the club and the Chairman will only be too happy if you do !

It was a tough one to call ...please understand the club would have wanted to go ahead , but this should not be at the expense of the danger to the players..

I remember back in the 60,s/70's when games were played on snow covered pitches, with just the lines on the pitch cleared of snow, with an orange football and the players wearing trainers. You never see that anymore. Perhaps the time has come to have a mid winter break and extend the season. You've got to feel sorry for the Hitchin and other supporters who make an effort to get to the games with their hard earned cash, only to find that the referee has called the game off because an area by the corner flag is a bit dodgy. Unfortunately it seems to be coming a regular occurence. Cant these areas which we know to be a problem be covered with some tarpaulin overnight just to get a match on , and then I can have my football fix. Guess I'll have to do with watching the over paid prima donnas on Match of the Day tonight.

It's all 'Elf & Safety' these days.

No one wants to be landed with a massive 'Kompensayshun' claim ! :bartshocked:

What a [censored] day. Have just got back after leaving Brighton at 8 this morning. Stuck for an hour in traffic with Big Lens on the way to Slough, then on the way home some poor sod jumped on the tracks near Slough and another person near Clapham to delay both my trains. Oh well, i suppose my day wasn't as bad as the people that jumped.

How much to pitch covers cost?

Brighton - it might have to do with the full moon - people jumping and getting twitchy about the state of the pitch!

In the good old days the 1922 team would clear the 6 feet deep snow drifts with their bare hands and play in minus 38 degree centigrade temperatures - these modern day players are not a spot on the team of '22!
