Harrow boss accuses Hornchurch of gamesmanship

DAVID Howell accused AFC Hornchurch of using gamesmanship to try and achieve victory at Earlsmead last week.

 

The Urchins had several penalty appeals turned down and while some observers might suggest they could feel aggrieved, Howell insists that was far from the case as his side chalked up their first clean sheet for two months in an evenly-contested match.

 

"No side really deserved to win or lose it but a goal would have triggered off a different kind of game," said the Borough boss.

 

"It wasn’t a case of us riding our luck - it was their gamesmanship and professionalism. If you keep putting pressure on the referee there is the chance he will give you a decision.

 

"Their job is hard enough as it is and I am never going to resort to telling my players to put that much pressure on officials in order to try and get a decision that could win a game. They (Hornchurch) did a lot of that. It’s something that is rife in football, full stop."

All I can say is that he was lucky they had a ref that could not keep up with play, as for pressure from players, they have a desire to win, take that away and we might aswell watch a game of tiddly winks.........

in regards with the harrow game, who ever wrote that mustve been watching a different game!

cant stop the urchins from actually wanting to win a game and if the tw@t we had for a ref got his decisions correct then hornchurch wouldve won about 3-0!!

Bet he can name them, and probably count them on the fingers of one hand as well!

 

Managers say things occasionally to detract attention away from their own team's performance. We were the better side and deserved to win. We had two blatent penalties turned down and a couple of other possibles turned down as well. I think even the calmest of players would get annoyed.

From time to time every team will try to con the Ref. It happens at all levels. Don't you just love these sacntimonious Managers who claim their team is whiter than white. Every one knows its not true and all they do is make pr@ts of themselves.

 

Of course I am in no way suggesting that's what we did last Saturday!!
