Burnham programme and ground good advert for ESL

Recommended Posts

I would just like to share how i enjoyed returning to Burnham Ramblers ground neat and tidy as i remember it from first going there in the 1980's and more recently three years ago, the clubhouse and the stands are top notch. The pitch lives up to all the good reviews billed on here and the programme is one of the best i have seen at level five. No offence to some of the other clubs we have visited but as much as i love Centre Spot, Burnham go one step further and as well as including that they had player stats for all thier first team squad, photo of Eddie Rhymes (well known figure of the D'arcy Cup/Essex F.a) presenting a trophy to the Ramblers groundsman/ secretary for their pitch, plus puzzles including suduko, reviews of recent Tiptree / Hullbridge matches and a mention to Portway & Robinson (sorry coachie you were not included) They had kit sponsors and manager and editors notes.

I thought i would share this as i have been vocal about two clubs in particular but praise where praise is due. :futbolbud2:

a very professional set up and wont look out of place in the Ryman, its a shame we have over 250,000 people in the Basildon district and you visit a place like Burnham which hasnt got a tenth of our population and are green with envy.

I would agree with you, Burnham and their facilities won't look out of place in the Ryman.... and i also agree a place the size of Basildon should really be on a par if not higher than their neighbours Billericay, it is a shame that back in the 80's the club had to resign from the Ryman League, if i remember correctly was it due to travelling?, which now would not be applicable as with the exception of the Kent sides and Northwood, Potters Bar the rest are mainly Essex or close to the county borders.

i wasnt involved with the Bees when they did resign from the isthmian league at the end of the 90/91 season, the main reason was due to the travelling as the Regional Division ones were being scrapped, one day we might return to the Ryman but as things stand we are more likely to be applying for the Olympian league than the Ryman.

I know you are only joking, but on a serious note, the olympian do a fair amount of travelling our Reserves a couple of seasons ago were drawn against Newham (East London) so you probably travel as much in the Ryman / ESL than the Olympian and Essex & Herts. (Newham to Springfiel or Broomfield in Chelmsford for level 7 is a fair distance)

Furthest Basildon Town will travel this season is probably to Cranes Utd, who played at Clapton FC.

Also, Southminster St Leonards are in the same division as Bishops Stortford Swifts, that's a fair old distance too.
