Horsham 3-3 Margate

Isthmian Prem

Adm £9*, prog £2, att 298 (I think I heard that right, they commented it was disappointing and to remind your friends in case they'd forgotten where the club was given this was the first home league game since Nov 28th!).

*Horsham are another for the "extra to sit" list. A £1 surcharge to sit in the main stand, but not in the little one further along.

Parked up in Queensway by a new cul-de-sac called The Hornets, site of the old Horsham ground and now lots of very shiny new houses. Heard someone at the ground say they had sold every one before a brick was laid.

First thing to note about the day was the catering. Charlies Snacks was outstanding, huge range of choice and everything piping hot and delicious. Bacon cheeseburger was £3.70, tea 80p. I was not alone in commenting how good they were.

Horsham took the lead in the second minute and within another minute we'd had two efforts a whisker away at the other end. Margate equalised on 25 from a fabulously elaborate free kick which involved one of their players standing in front of the keeper during all the preparations, running back onside in the nick of time. Clearly worked as the keeper could only watch the ball fly in.

Margate took the lead on 55 with a simple glanced header from a near post corner and were looking good value having had the better chances since levelling. However, Horsham came back into it and two close range finishes in a couple of minutes about 10-15 turned things around. A great chance for a fourth with a one on one late on was spurned and right on the 90, Margate got a third again form close in.

A good day out a a friendly club and an entertaining game with, for the neutral, about the right result.
