Price hike

Eastside Urchin

Obviously i wasn't at the game on saturday as i was away but i am surprised that none of you that was at the game saturday has raised this point.

The price of a pint of lager has gone up from £2.60 to £2.80,why is this,it was only a couple of months or so ago we was being told that we would have sky in the bar, open more often, prices would come down.

I pay £2 a pint in the optomist, although i prefer to drink at the club i am not going to pay 80p more than i can next door from my house for a pint

Why not put the price up for the functions at the club which we seem to have many of these days and at least put the prices back for home games and club events, after all it is the fans who spend their wages on coming to the club, supporting the team through the 50/50 quiz nights, parties, club shop, raffles, burger van and the bar on match days.

Just doesn't seem right to me when people have less money at the moment and the gates are down anyway

I know there are reasons like VAT up 2.5% but that does not amount to 20p.

If the prices stay that high then many people will choose to drink in the pubs before and after the game and i will be one of them

May be a Brewery Rip Off.

Beer never went down when VAT was reduced. It went up when VAT went back up.

As tradition would have it, breweries put up the price of beer before the budget by more than the Chancellor does.

Then they convince you they are your friend by obsorbing the budget increase.

I did raise the fact that bitter had gone up from £2.65 to £2.80 and was told it was because of the vat increase. This is 2.5% and not 6% that this increase is. To add to this insult the price of beer never went down when vat was decreased in the first place.

I was paying less in London and Romford last Friday night. It is not as though you can watch Sky etc as you can at other pubs. It will be reallised that you can only push supporters so far and they will have enough of having the p1ss taken out of them and they will go else where. There is a resession on you know !!!!!!

The amount of times i hear different people moaning about the attendence going down. You dont have to be Steven Hawkins to work out why.

It just seems to me that the supporters that do turn up are being made to pay for the miss financial magement of the club by directors and the football club committeee from previous seasons.

Hang on a minute. Havnt i heard that before ?????

when i first started drinking back in 1990 or so,i used to go to the club at least 3 nights a week because it was the cheapest place to get a pint, used to be about £1.10 when the pubs were £1,50 or so

Now it has gone the other way and is now the most expensive in upminster.

I have complete respect for the jobs people are doing trying to hold this club together but this is a major own goal imo

.

even if that was the case, shop elsewhere

Maybe they cant......and while i can understand your concerns at the price rise, do you think the forum is the best place to discuss it?

Not the best PR if you are trying to encourage people to quiz nights, darts nights etc.

Thats the point 17, it should have been advertised on the web site and forum, so that people who are trying to arrange events know whats going concerning price rises. How many people now will not turn up at darts etc, leave games earlier or pop in to pubs along the way where drink is cheaper.

maybe I can help.

You are right beer prices didn't come down when VAT was reduced, but neither did they go up when

Minimum wage went up

or when Business rates went up

or when Utilities went up

or cleaning fluids went up

it is hard running a bar/pub/club and trying to compete with a Weatherspoons culture

VAT has gone up 2.5%

Brewers are putting prices up on average 4.5%

AND there is a duty increase due in April

I don't have an axe to grind, just 2 pubs to run and 8 people to keep off the unemployment

I do sympathise, but trust me the club not make an extra penny from this or Aprils increase

CHEERS !

so beer is that expensive nowadays, well it weren't at waltham abbey last tuesday,I don't want the club to compete with witherspoons,i just don't feel that becoming the most expensive place to buy beer in upminster (including the crumpled horn which is notoriously high) is doing anyone any favours,I might actually pay £2.80 if i could watch live football in there or have a few games of pool in there but i can't

Its exactly the sort of place to discuss it,if we can't even hold a conversation on a forum regarding our concerns at our club then where can we.We may as well all pack up and go and watch premier league football with the other mugs who pay inflated prices.

One of the main reasons why i gave up my Arsenal season ticket was because of the steep prices for tickets/food and beer etc, never expected it to get that bad at hornchurch.

Does anyone really think that at £2.60 a pint there was no profit being made???

My guess would be that if it was sold at £2 a pint there would still be profit to be made,i am not asking for it to be that price,i just feel £2.80 is too high

I have been reliably informed that when Romford come home to Havering they intend to charge no more than £1 a pint and free entry for OAPs.

Back to this topic,i have been thinking.

I appreciate prices are going up but i do think that a compromise can be made.

Maybe season ticket holders, supporters club members, staff, volunteers can pay a discounted rate for drinks, say £2.30 for example.

This would possibly encourage more people to join the supporters club or buy a season ticket, therefore giving the club more money at the start of a season.

The club takes more money over the bar from functions not connected with the club than it does from supporters at the moment.

Whenever i have been to a function like a wedding, parties etc away from the club at a function room or hall the prices have always been higher than that of pubs.

I can't remember the last time i went to a wedding or a party and paid less than £2.80 a pint for lager, often more than £3 so why not charge similar for functions where we probably take more over the bar.
