Nice to see us getting the back page lead again.... if nothing else this summer we've had plenty of press coverage.

Anyway apparently we've signed a lad called Steve Jones from Tilbury. Don't know anything about him except what it says in the article, ie he's a winger.

Soccer: Edingburgh gets Spurs in for game

New Billericay Town boss Justin Edinburgh has quickly earned his spurs with New Lodge fans by organising a pre-season friendly with the Tottenham club he played for during a ten-year top flight career.

The White Hart Lane outfit will not be fielding a full strength first team for the game on August 9 because Glen Hoddle's men take on Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon the following day.

But there are expected to be a number of well-known names in the line-up to face Town at Blunts Wall Road for the 3pm kick-off.

The team is being brought down by Spurs' reserve manager, former Scotland international fullback Colin Calderwood.

"Colin and I have remained great friends since our playing days at Spurs and our families go away on holidays together," said Edinburgh.

"It's nice that my former pro connections enable me to bring top class opposition to Billericay for friendlies.

"And I'm sure the team Colin brings along will be a strong one, giving us a real test just a week before our own Ryman season starts."

Tilbury winger Steve Jones is the latest addition to the New Lodge playing staff and Edinburgh, who sees his Billericay begin their friendly build-up at Great Wakering a week tomorrow, has been delighted at the response he has received from players since training started a week ago.

"To be honest the general level of fitness among the players has surprised me and will allow us to move onto things like ball work much earlier than I originally anticipated," he said.
