Official club comms with fans

I just wanted to take the opportunity to explain a bit about our approach to communication with supporters.

As you know, we have been working hard at increasing what we say and how often we communicate with supporters. Fans are naturally particularly interested when the topic concerned is the coming and going of payers.

The club’s normal policy is to not say anything specifically about the signing of new players until the deal has been fully completed – that is to say the paperwork has been signed by all parties, after the requisite approach period and the football authorities notified. I think that this is the right thing to do.

However, we may choose to respond to stories in the press or from other clubs where the source can be traced back to the other club concerned e.g. the local press in the other club’s area as a result of a conversation with someone at that club.

Hopefully, the recent situation with both Paul Johnson and Adrian Stone have re-enforced in supporters’ minds that we are doing what we can, when we can to ensure fans are kept right up to date. It is a delicate balance to get right.

Some might say that perhaps the better option is then to keep everything under wraps and only comment when the whole thing is concluded. My personal opinion is that the approach we are currently trying adopt is the best approach for everyone.

I am spending some time working with Keith and Mark to make sure that we do bring you validated, actual and truthful news as quickly as we can. Hopefully we get it right most of the time.

I have in the past been critical of the lack of communication between the Management and supporters via the official site, in recent weeks I have been impressed with the information available and appreciate all the hard work by those responsible. Communication is vital and we have become far more professional as a club because of it, and indeed the commercial nous of Mr Egan has not gone unnoticed, these might be dark days but if we can keep our heads above water as stated, brighter times are surely not far away.

And it must be bxxdy hard work and time consuming for those who voluntarily try and keep it up to date.

That given-if and when we start winning regularly-it will become both easier and more fun for those who put the hard work in updating it for us all

That is very true Michael. Match reports take me much longer when we lose!
