Disappointing news about Paul Johnson.

He wanted more cash and got his way. If he can walk into any team in the division then why settle for where he is now... Interested to see what happens in the summer.

If the issue was money, and lets face it we could all do with a bit more, then maybe its better that he didnt come to MFC, we have had our fair share of journeyman over the seasons and someone with aesthetic/monetory ambitions wont make for a stable team...... IMO.

Porka, I'm delighted that both you and Supergate are such experts on my club's finances.

Perhaps the fact he lives locally to us and has a baby son was a factor here? Travelling to Margate would have cost him a lot of cash in expenses and an awful lot of quality time with his family. Sometimes, it's really not about more money... Paul Johnson has made 249 appearances for Ashford Town and is the club captain, so he clearly feels an affinity for the place.

I'm not going to respond to rumours or tittle-tattle about wages. You know about as much about our finances as I do about Margate's... nothing.

Time to move on, I think?

It seems to me that MB assembled a pretty good side at Ashford;and credit to Lawrence for getting them playing quite well and carrying on in similar vein.

I thought they looked well equipped to be a good Ryman side-you don't need all this flowing football stuff-just need EFFECTIVE football from strong players-and thats what they seem to have.

IF they can keep their current side together-i can see them challenging for a play off position very easily.

Could that be an attraction to the likes of Johnson ?

Are we in a bit of a catch 22-we need a physical and quality midfield player and striker to help us ease up the league;but those type of players won't be so interested in coming to a club who are currently in a relegation battle ?

Its not all about money.

If we were in top half-even 10th/11th-i'm sure MB would find it alot easier to attract the better player.

As i suggest

catch 22

You clearly have responded.

No doubt he has an affinity for Ashford. And of course his locality will be a factor in his decision. But the point here is he has got someone outside the club paying his now new wage, its fact

To say its not about money is ridiculous, he would not have considered moving to us if you didnt have money problems originally, and when you've solved his problem he decided to stay so in fact it WAS mainly about money, and once again good luck to both him and club, just stop pleading poverty when clearly your paying decent wages, its not a bad thing

Your own web site said he had left you for "monetary reasons, he made no secret of it" so you clearly solved them

But it is time to move on, and I'm sure MB will be looking at new targets

Supergate, you appear to have an interesting definition of the word "fact". Something can only be a fact if there is evidence that proves it is true.

I have seen nothing anywhere that suggests Paul Johnson is on "new" wages. Similarly, where is your evidence concerning this new sponsor?

You certainly got nothing along those lines from my post.

I also said that it wasn't ALL about money - not that it wasn't a factor.

It really doesn't matter what you think our financial situation is or isn't, but I don't think your speculation is helping.

The whole episode has become rather tiresome and, like you, I'm glad it has come to an end.

Apparently Steve that incident was because the Ashford fans were using threatening language towards the linesman down the far end.(maybe there was more to it than just that, not sure).

The stewards intervened to calm them down......so I was told.

Nothing to do with Johnson,as we first thought.
