ESSEX Senior League side Takeley were in mourning this week following the death of their secretary, Lee Boreham, writes David Ballheimer.

 

Mr Boreham, who was only 33 years old, died of cancer on Wednesday. He took over as secretary at the start of the season and, in the short space of time he held the position, impressed everyone with his administrative ability.

 

Not only was he the secretary, but he also compiled match reports and produced the club programme.

 

It is a huge blow to the club – in just their second season at Level 5 – sitting third in the Essex Senior League table, two points behind leaders Burnham Ramblers.

 

The Essex Senior League allowed the club to postpone their scheduled fixture against Bethnal Green United – which, in any case, fell foul of the weather – and the reserves were also given permission to call off their game.
