Player / Team of the Decade

Who would be your Player of the 'noughties'?

My choice ... Bill Edwards (is that a 'no-brainer? )

What would be your Team of the 'noughties'?

My choice

Phil Smith

Greg Oates / Bill Edwards / Paul O'Brien

Sam Sodje / Ross Smith

John Keister / James Pinnock / Jimmy Jackson

Danny Hockton / Phil Collins

subs: Paul Nichols / Ian O'Connell / Terry McFlynn / Jay Saunders / Paul Sykes

As you can see I'm not very good at this - Can you do better ???

Match of the Decade

My choice

Grays Athletic 3 - Margate 3 (FA Cup 4th Q 2003-4 season)

Margate 3-1 down after 90mins with 6mins added by Referee - Mr Singh ... (we equalise in 9th minute)

Player / Team of the Decade

Iain O'Connell was still impressing at the start of the decade but Sam Sodje would be in with a shout. Or Keister - it's not easy is it??

Match of the Decade

For just entertainment in general value it would be away to Burton Albion as Champions in the last game of the season 2000/01.

Tough call but probably 3-3 at home to Northwich in the Conference.

Team of the noughties

Phil Smith

Greg Oates / Sam Sodje / Bill Edwards / Graham Porter / Danny Murphy

Terry McFlynn / John Keister / Jay Saunders

Leon Braithwaite / Danny Hockton

Subs - Lee Turner, Iain O'Connell, Adrian Clarke, Mark Munday, Phil Collins

Match of the noughties

Tough one! Beating Leyton Orient at Crabble? Winning at Yeovil? The other one that stands out was Woking 0-5 Margate early on in 2002/03.

Most exciting match - the 4-4 with Northwich in January 2003. Also one of the last matches at the old Hartsdown. Even after Terry McFlynn's late, late equaliser both teams could have won it.

Most bizarre game - losing 3-2 at Nuneaton. 2-0 up on 78 minutes and cruising, 3-2 down on 83.

Best goal? Akpo Sodje at Yeovil? McFlynn v Northwich (above)?

For 'best half hour of football of the decade' (not entirely sure such an award ever has or ever will exist), away at Worthing in Trott's first 'full' season in charge must be up there. Absolutely tore them to shreds for the first half hour - scored with virtually every attack. Fair few of us there, and singing 'We're gonna win the league' in the blazing sunshine on the opening day of the season - good memories!

Fisher away in the FA cup for me. Who can forget it 2-0 down then Rob comes on to make it 2-1 then they score again 3-1 down so tell Fisher keeper that as they have got a 2 goal advantage again we will now go and win it 3-4. 2 goals by Charlie Side and then the winner from Jay.

What a match and bet Danny Hockton wished he had not gone to Bromley as he watched from the stands.

1st game on the season a few years back (2007). Ist half at Worthing going in at the break 5-0 up. Made everyone sit up & take notice did that . Awesome football & superb finishing. Excuse me if I don't mention the 2nd half though! :hairout:

Drawing at Leyton Orient & the replay victory are unforgettable.

The loss at home (crabble) to Cardiff. Not so much for the end result but for the excessive cold on the day. brugggghhh!... that was a cold un'.

Goal of the decade. McFlynn's debut goal at home to Boston. 35 yarder that sailed into the top corner. Crazy scenes, a game we actually performed in when we had a big crowd - 1800 ish. I remember Elding went on to equalise but we had a clear goal ruled out despite the ball crossing the line near the end.

Steve I think it was 4-4 against Northwich Victoria. 4-1 down at half time if I remember right. Terry Mcflynn nearly won it for us right at the end as well. The 8-0 versus Stalybridge would equal that game as well I reckon. Those were the days.

You are right. The excitement blurred my memory!

I can still remember McFlynns corker and running down the front, going mad with everyone else and looking back to see the Coffin End virtually empty as everyone else had made the same beeline for Terry. Oh to have the Coffin End back just as it was!
