Saturday

Missed most of the earlier snow Steve. Very very light snow here at the moment though coming down. Cold & damp but no snow on the ground (in the cliftonville area anyway).

Up the line on my travels (by train), loads of compact snow in Folkestone/Dover/Canterbury & surrounding areas. Maidstone, further up has snow about a foot deep.

Must be an outside chance of a game on Saturday I would have thought but we might see a deterioration in the weather again before Saturday so its 50/50 I would say at the moment ( i.m.o.) which is as least better odds that last week.

Dunno what the pitch is like.Last week the snow laying on top had turned to ice crystals but I would have thought that would have gone by now. Still 4 days to go before kick-off & who knows what the weather might bring in that time.

As the forecast says the temperatures are due to rise to about 5 degrees over the next few days the only way game won't be played is it if rains a lot and pitcg gets waterlogged (heavy rain expected on Saturday).

Agree Tony, heading towards London this morning very heavy snow as soon as we hit London suburbs, might be High Speed train again tonight to get home if it keeps coming down!

I saw on the news the other day that a farmer had ice bound ground (rock hard) but where he had laid "straw" on top in places it was easily penetrated by a fork so maybe thats the answer. Lay straw all over the pitch.

But then again just think of the mess afterwards trying to clear it all up & especially if the wind gets up. Maybe the club could put straw over the pitch & then cover it maybe. Just a thought, a silly one maybe but just a thought nevertheless.Would cost too I would imagine.

I see what you mean Alan about the forecast for rise in temperatures having looked at the Met.Office predictions. Even up to + 6 degrees on Friday. Now that would help but again as you say then we have possible waterlogging to concern ourselves with.

I see Sunday is forecast as being +7 degrees with sunshine & only 12 m.p.h winds. Seems a perfect day as an alternative. Blimey thats nigh on Summer weather is it not ?

I would think that there is a very good chance of the match being on on Saturday now. If you missed the main snow, then the forcast for the rest of the week is good, with temperatures rising quite high. I have just come back from taking the dogs out and despite the snow it is quite soft underneath.

As others have said the Thanet area is pretty much clear of snow now. Just some very light stuff today that didnt lay. No doubt we'll play Saturday as long as we don't get a downpour on the day.

Mind you, wasn't heavy water used in early nuclear weapons programmes?
