Game Saturday?

Gary has anyone been or planning to have a look at the state of the ground?

After maybe a light bit of snow tomorrow the rest of the week looks quite promising with daytime temperatures of 4 degrees and overnight of 2 degrees.

I see Windsor think they have a chance of getting their game on and have requested help on their website to clear the snow off the pitch.

If it is going to cost us, I would also expect them to completely defrost the area afterwards, as the big problem will be the deep frost under the ground on the pitch.

Once the snow has been cleared, the ground will still be rock hard. Unless the four "hot air" volunteers can get on the pitch early enough :)

Even so, I also want this game to be on, and will be there to help in the morning if needed.

I give it about a 5% chance of it being on, and that's generous.

If you are now tempted to go and watch Warren swim in the sea, watch out for the roads, they have hardly gritted at all in Brighton. But I don't give much chance of that happening either due to the lack of the swimmer.

THe league have given us permission to inspect the pitch ourselves on Friday and make a decision then. Depending on how long the snow lasts for, the temperatures are due to rise to a balmy five degrees by Saturday with overnight temperatures around freezing or just below.

I will get the pitch looked at prior to this to give us a better idea of how likely it is to go ahead. Before the snow today I was looking forward to a match, perhaps optimistically, at the weekend as there would be a good crowd. As has been said above though, it is the frost in the pitch already which will need to clear. Fingers crossed.

Horsham Rebel - I have calculated there is a 37.635% chance of the game being on based on the current forcast, the altitude of the ground, the proximity to the motorway, the amount of enclousure the trees provide, the amount of use of the club house, the usage of the pitch, the length of the grass, the number of Slough and SYCOB supporters, the amount of heat stollen by Windsor and Eton FC to keep Lizzy warm, the amount of sauce applied to the burgers less the amount put on the hotdogs, the amount of wine consumed by a certain club shop official, the amount of times Ted has got offside decisions right compared to the lino, the amount of moaning done by the old men, the number of times the Kirbys have been late to games due to navigation errors, and finally the amount of hot air generated by yours truely.

There is however a +/- 62.365% error in the original chance of the game being on due to the fact that I have not got a clue about what I am talking about and the sums were done by a certain programme seller under the guidance of our Brighton representative down a very bad phone line.

In other words, we will have to wait and see.

Forecast is not bad after tomorrow.

I guess the main decision will be when to try and clear off the snow.

I'm a bit suprised we'll make a decision Friday when it's only Chesham (so it's not far) and the rain forecast Saturday morning could well help clear things early Saturday. Shame we can't push the game back to Sunday - scorchio at 7 degrees with a full sun predicted!!

Waterlogged pitch may be a problem now - rained in Slough all early morning which is slowly melting the snow away.

As you say Chris, with the snow melting with the higher temperatures and rain forecast between now and Saturday the main danger will probably be from waterlogging. IMO the only way the game will be on is if the remaining snow is removed from the pitch.

Start making other plans for Saturday guys and girls. Chris S and I went along to the ground tonight and the pitch is still under a good five inches of snow as is the surroudning terracing almost all of the car park. I will go up and check it again tomorrow to see how much, if any, has cleared but it is highly unlikely we will be watching Slough play on Saturday.

Gary, there was always going to be snow on the pitch and surrounding areas of 4 to 5 inches, you've only got to look at the local parks and fields.

I thought your visit today was to see whether it was feasable for a working party to shift the snow from the pitch and terracing.

It will be interesting to see if Windsors attempt to get their game on succeeds.

Hi Ches fan..really dont think this would be a viable request.. I was with Gary tonight at Beaconsfield ..they have had some real snow there ...I could not believe my eyes ...I would hazard to guess

that it would take a work party of 50 people and more to actually make in roads to this huge amount of snow...some areas around the pitch were in drifts of a foot and more ! The car park was also deep in snow, and the terracing was another area that would need to be cleared ..unless we get a heat wave and a rapid thaw ..this game will not be played for sure...sorry but thats the facts...Gary as above will look

again tomorrow Friday 15th Jan 2010...

I would hazard to guess that there could be up to 300 - 500 tons of snow to be cleared ...from the pitch and the terracing and the car park and the entrance roadway !

I hope I am wrong...I need football too...

RR, certainly a few miles down the road from SYCOB where I am, a lot has thawed on my estate and with the rain today I was not expecting five inches of snow in the ground and access road when we got there. Our visit today was to assess the current situation to see where we stood. As Chris S says, we would need a working party of at least fifty people to sort it out, and that would just be removing the snow. There is the possibiltiy of damaging the pitch and making the long term situation worse by clearing the snow. Given the numbers we have helping out over the summers months, we would not get anywhere near the level of people power we need to resolve the issue IMO.

Still, I live in hope. The forecast is positive but the sheers amount of snow there will be the issue. We shall find out a bit more tomorrow.
