Help Wanted

Windsor & Eton are looking for volunteers to help clear the snow off the pitch and terraces to help get the game on for Saturday.

Work will start at 7:30pm on Thursday until whenever finished and will also be done Friday night if required.

Please bring your own shovel and if possible a wheel barrow.

Windsor & Eton manager Keith Scott will be helping out on the night.

The pitch itself is pretty good underneath.

I'll be there malc Guessing its starting tommorow night or is it thursday? I know thursday night the club is open for the darts so at least the bar will be open!!

Not sure if i can dig out a wheelbarrow but a spade shouldnt be an issue.

Count me in, i'll spring a shovel or two...

From what i can make out that means we have Malc, Scotty, Dawson, Hovis, Gordie Mick, Joel, Mrs Cats Pre-darts, hopefully a few of the darts players, dazza and myself. Not a bad motley crew! Anyone else who i've missed out?

With the thaw already starting in the Costa Del Old Windsor there is at the very least a good chance of getting the ground safe. Whilst some clubs may call their games off on the friday it'd be good if we could at least wait till the saturday when its meant to be warmer.

Not sure if its open but go down and give it a go. a massive task is still ahead of us and all the help possible would be fantastic. Brooms seem to work best so if you can bring one of them thats quite strong!! It's in the hands of the gods as to how it thaws but a party of us are going down tommorow with beer ( Trust me the snow keeps it cool very well!!) and getting takeaways in!!

To all you Windsor fans reading if you've not got alot to do come and help as its very much touch and go!

We have cancelled the additional work on Friday evening.

A very big thank you to Darren Peirce, Ian Dawson, Woody, Hovis and friend (sorry, didn't get his name) and Matt Hart who turned out and I appologise to anyone else who was there who I haven't mentioned.

Even Keith Scott was clearing snow off the pitch.

If the forcasted rain does arrive and the snow melts, there may be some forking work required Saturday morning.

There may be more work to do over the next few days and any help is always appreciated. All details will be posted on here.

If I have missed anyone's name from those who helped out then please add them to this thread.

Just been down to the club and noted the super efforts of the guys last night. The pitch seems softish underneath amd is thawing with the rain and the increased temperature, so question for Mal: what is the minimum the referee will accept, for example if we cleared the lines on the pitch tomorrow morning, will he allow the match to go ahead as long as it isn't frozen?

The terraces are not too bad so 'elf n safety shouldn't complain. I am willing to go down to the ground tomorrow to help clear the snow if it makes a difference........

I'm going to pop down later to see the difference in the pitch from today to yesterday. The end we worked on is pretty much where the pitch is more likely to get waterlogged in normal weather apparently so was the hard part. The ground underneth in places is wet but in others isnt too bad. Depending on the thaw today and the work we'll have to do saturday morning we could have a chance.

Will there be any official notification on the website or here maybe after an inspection, and if so at what time?

Another potential new visitor was asking me, after finding nothing on the website, and apparently the club answering machine is still confidently predicting that the New Year's Day game against Uxbridge will be on!

TIA!

Right, in answer to what the ref will allow I cannot say. I would expect that we would have to get all the snow off the playing area and leave it no closer than 1 meter from the pitch.

Some people will be at the club form about 9am to do what ever is necessary to get the game on and I believe there is an inspection at 11am.

There has been no news published because there is no news to give. Everyone knows the extent of this weather and it that it is going to take a hell of a lot of work to get the game on. All I can say is that with the fantastic work that was done last night, a little help from the weather and a bit of work tomorrow and there is every chance that the game will go ahead.

............ and beer will be available in the bar ? :champis2:

I've just checked metcast for various areas in the South-East.

It's a mixture of cloud and rain over the next 48 hours, so who know ? :Kick_Can_emoticon:
