No Pay, but Play OK

SLOUGH Town have been thrown another lifeline by Windsor & Eton chairman Peter Simpson.

Mr Simpson will not turn his back on the Rebels playing at Stag Meadow if they fail to pay the remaining £22,500 of the first yearÕs rent by the deadline of August 1.

The Rebels club secretary, Roy Merryweather, met with Mr Simpson on Wednesday night and was overwhelmed with the professionalism Mr Simpson has once again displayed. Mr Merryweather also confirmed that he has spoken to former Slough Town chairman, Martyn Deaner.

Mr Deaner, it appears, has rattled off another list of promises. Those promises include money, thought to be in the region of £50,000, to be paid to Alan Thorne, by Friday morning.

Mr Deaner believes payment of this outstanding amount, which is rent of the Stadium from leaseholder Mr Thorne, puts him in a strong position to re-negotiate an extension to the lease.

It is understood that Mr Deaner has been given another option on the land north of St EthelbertÕs school by Slough Borough Council.

Besides these two parties, no-one appears to know what the deal involves. The situation could become clearer by July 31.

This is when Mr Thorne gets his window to buy the freehold to Wexham Park Stadium. Meanwhile Supporters Association (STSA) secretary Chris Sliski, chairman Mike Lightfoot and life member Alan Harding also met on Wednesday night to take the next step in forming a supporters trust that could run the Rebels.

Mr Lightfoot said: We expect to organise a committee meeting for next Wednesday when we will need three signatures to finalise the Slough Town Supporters Trust (STST). We are looking at a launch in early September.

The STST will run alongside the club and will take over the running of it if Mr Deaner walks away. Slough Borough Council offered Mr Deaner 5.25 acres of land on which to build his commercial venture to raise capital to buy Wexham Park Stadium.

He wanted 12 acres. A final decision on whether to give the land to a proposal for a Sikh School has been deferred for two months. Leader of the council, Rob Anderson and Mr Deaner have boh failed to return calls to this newspaper.

Looks like out good friend Martyn has been keeping all his promises again!

It also details the players who turned up for pre-season training, ten in total namely. Daly, Barrowcliff, Deaner, Hodges, Boot, Braich, Whatford, Spencer, Gyoury and Howard. Find a goalkeeper and we can play 5-2-3!

Obviously Bubb, Winston, Browne, Palmer, Williams and CJ have followed Satan to Borehamwood.

I'd like to know then where have Metcalfe, Wilko, Blakey and Adrian Brown gone? Can't remember what was happening with DJ Zeph but I seem to remember he was going somewhere.

Dom's gone back to France permanently I think. Blakey's training with Hampton and as for Wilko & Mets, well who knows, but i'd be surprised if they went with Browne (especially Mets). Hopefully they were just on holiday.

Talking of holiday - off to Ayia Napa for a week tonight - hopefully evethings sorted when I come back, but I very much doubt it!

There's also a great letter from John Tebbit in the Observer highlighting how the Council have chosen to ignore certain facts surrounding the performance of the Sikh school in Hayes. As usual they have chosen to ignore the facts, this time in the form of the Ofsted report, and prefer to listen to the backers of the new school who claim it to be without fault.

There's an even more interesting article though on page 2 which suggests a Sikh sports hall will be built despite concerns from local residents about traffic. " Members of the Sikh community have already held secret discussions with council officials ", it states. It goes on to say...." Sikhs said the Asian population was particularly prone to heart disease and a fitness centre would help combat that ."

So the plan to build sports and leisure facilities that the whole of the town's population could use was obviously a really stupid one.

" The application is expected to be decided at a town hall planning meeting later this month ." And which way do we think they'll decide then?!

I heard from my mates, who don`t support Slough that they bumped into Dominique in france handing out leaflets about the club or something! They didn`t take one so not sure what it was about but they talked to him and he said he was the Slough Town Goalkeeper! Does anyone else know what this is about?
