Snow stories

Hi ..I am sure we are all fed up there is no Football....but while we are waiting ..be good to know if your ok ..and does anyone have any good snow stroies to tell ?

As your all aware I work at Heathrow for the Finnish Airline ..who are doing quite well as expected I guess ...but to be honest the crew tell me that Heathrow has coped

quite well so far , and yes we have a different kind of snow ! In Finland with the snow so cold at a minus 36 recored today in Kittila , all they have to do is sweep the wings

clear of the snow and the packed in snow has little effect on the ablity of the aircraft to gain speed on a tightly packed surface...for its take off run.

However the wet snow we get sticks to everything and quite easily turns to a wet type of ice , and slush ..these have great effect on the ablity for an aircraft to gain speed

on its take off run....

So to prove a point we do get the wrong type of snow ! ...so Our crews are quite impressed that things are moving quite well for a country not used to these kind of extremes

in weather conditions...

What snow?

Have got in to work every morning on time after an 18 mile drive!

Only issue is the Lorry drivers and white van men who still drive 6 foot off the back of my car - c0cks! An example is the B Taylor and sons driver who was trying to go 70 mph down the M3 on Wednesday morning.

Apart from the people who live in the middle of nowhere and drive 4x4's the only people who are struggling to get to work are the one's who live on any sort of hill.

I'm really gutted that tomorrows Liverpool v Spurs match is off due to conditions outside the ground. The Arsenal game is on today because the club has worked with the council to ensure the game is on. So why couldn't Liverpool have done this in co-operation with the council?

Still got around 5" on the ground and another 3-5" due overnight tonight.

Not been to work in the office in Brighton since Tuesday, but still managing to do a full day's work from home thanks to remote access.

I tried to move the car yesterday and got about 10 feet before it got stuck, and it took the neighbours help to get it back to the spot it came from.

I'm at the bottom of a slight hill, in a cul-de-sac. The only cars to get out of my road have been the 4*4s.

No chance of going into the office or anywhere else not walkable for me.

Some of Horsham lost power due to snow bringing the power lines down, but thankfully my area has been ok.

Hallo all,

As some of may know , I was in Hospital before Christmas having a Toe taken off----So Im off sick and unable to go far with the weather

and all .I have a Nurse come in every couple of days or so to check on me and dress the wound--So Im bored..

Anyway to the point of this post--As I am bored I sit and watch the world go by but as I live in a cul-de-sac , not a lot does go by.

Across the way is a small car park for the residents. There is a pavement which goes around this carpark and theres a couple of lowered

areas so vehicles can go to and thro without running over the kerbs. One of my neighbours parks his car in the corner of this car park and the other

day drove out of the parking space but straight over the kerb....The result ,of course, was his front wheels spinning because they couldnt

get a grip on the icey pavement and his rear wheels jamming against the kerb--- after a lot of head scratching and spinning wheels, he

worked out what was wrong ,and got out by driving further forward and driving out of the carpark by the lowered area and not the kerb..

If this wasnt bad enough , the same thing happened the following day , he tried to drive over kerb, lots of wheel spinning, head scratching

and eventual exit out of the carpark..Guess what--Yes-Same thing again on the third day-----He now parks in the road not the carpark..

Just to prove there is more than one silly person about, the cul-de-sac I live in has a T-junction at the top, any traffic needs to turn right to get

out of the small estate I live in .Theres not a lot of space due to parked vehicles but someone managered to slip their car on the ice between two

parked vehicles and knocked a fence down---However there was only a space between the parked cars of about vehicle size and it was at a

big angle to my road, not straight on--It also seems to be Hit and run/slide-as noone knows who did it--

Hope to see you all at a game some sunny day---well, any sort of day , as long as theres a game----

Good to see your re-cuperating well from your toe operation wheelchair rebel.

Yes, I've noticed people parking on the road-side especially in anticipation of the next lot of snow due Sat/Sun.

My guess is our next game will be either Stourport Swifts or Hitchin.

See you there.

Watch out for Gary Glitter on the beach.

Apparently, he's applied for the return of his passport as he needs a 'holiday' !
