League matches cannot be called off until the day of the match under league rules.

 

However given the current weather, clubs are being allowed to call off their matches today.

 

Any matches which are deemed to be playable, must also consider travelling and so could still be called off due to road conditions. This decision is made by the league and not the ref. So if a match is off and the surface is playable it might not be the ref that has had to make the decision.

Ian, I thought I had read somewhere this week that even if a league gives the go-ahead for a game to be played it could be over ruled by their local authority?

not heard that - but the league was unlikely to approve any match anyway.

 

In fact as far as I am aware all clubs could postpone their own matches this weekend, without consulting a ref.

 

as it is all matches in the league are off - can't see many midweek matches going ahead either.
