Interesting read on Wikipedia

Taken from the Enfield (1893) FC Wikipedia page; (yes, I know it's Wikipedia and therefore most likely nonsense)

"The club will groundshare with Broxbourne Borough V&E from the start of the 2009–10 season, at Goffs Lane, after attempts to secure the use of the QE2 athletics stadium in Enfield failed, with Enfield Town being allowed to play there instead. This is now seen as a positive move as the QE2 stadium would take massive financial injections to maintain and the joint venture with Broxbourne Borough gives Enfield a place to call home with huge potential and with an EN postcode and 1 mile from their old Southbury Road Ground."

Now, I know for a fact the latter part of that statement is completely untrue (Goffs Lane 1 mile from Southbury Road!? Who made that one up?) - my question, however - is there any truth to the "massive financial injections needed" to maintain the new stadium have any truth to it?

I'd say yes, it's completely true. There is a lot of work to be done on the buildings, spectator areas and playing areas, and our Board are working hard raising the money, getting grants together and so on.

Of course it's going to need massive financial injections to get the ground/stadium up to standard - but the way I read the article it seems to suggest that to maintain the stadium (after it has been redeveloped) thereafter will be rather expensive?

i agree we do need a lot of money Enfield town wrote to E.F.C. and three times they rejected our proposals to join us now they are only at the other club for the begining of 209 they are panaking that they will have nowere to go we would like if poss to get in there on our ownif we raise enough money they had there chance a lot of people would not like it and we would loose a lot of fans that is my arguement.

Dont know why this thread has been opened, it only gets us talking of the past, the if's and but's and the 'why dont we merge with 1893' hyperthetical scenario's.

The Stadium does need money in abundance, but Town are working with the council and other sources of revenue raising schemes to meet these costs. All Town need to raise is 50k ish (from what I understand) thats £200 per supporter at the last home attendence. So together, positively this can be achieved if us supporters/members want it to happen with as little sweat as possible.

So what could the club offer you in order to persuade you to part with £200?

Seaon ticket for 3 years?

or

10 Year membership?

or

Access to a Vice Presidents lounge?

or

A monthly draw?

There are lots of ideas on how to extract money for people, but follks need to feel they are getting value for money

I can't see many supporters being able to part with £200.00. I just hope the Football Foundation grant comes through so the Council will then be able to match fund it.

Tricky as the club must also be careful not to under sell it self.

Personally, I would accept a two year season ticket, which would mean I still get a discounted entry over the two seasons. What can a club our size offer as an additional perk?

A thought came to me this morning as on another thread I wrote "Whats Facebook?"

Gurjinder Singh was murdered in Barking today and they were doing a memorial piece on the Today programme. Various Sikhs were discussing how Gurjinder used to work in the Gudwara helping in the kitchen, always ready to lend a hand doing gardening etc. He was killed chasing thieves who stole a young woman's handbag.

It is clear that he had a sense of right and wrong and lived up to his ideal.

The other day someone on the Today programme was having a discussion about computer social networking and saying this is what youngsters need. There was an opponent who said that people dont learn social skills in front of a computer. They are not given any moral guidance.

I was also singing a work song as I made tea this morning. "If I had a hammer". These songs were sung as people laboured, collectively, in the fields and were passed from generation to generation. There are many of them and I am sure that people can contribute their own examples.

So what has this to do with what Enfield Town can offer that is worth £200.

Enfield Town has a proud folk memory. Most of its supporters know the difference between right and wrong. We are a collective when other collectives have broken down. Trade unions, Labour party, Brass Bands even the church but not Mr Singh and his Gurdwara.

I think that spending £200 to maintain a community is very very good value.
