so left then. Thanks SL

Its as SL says, he is going round the world with his girly. And we've won each game very well since. By the time he gets back we'll be in the Prem (I hope) and then he'll have to leave as it'll be a level to much for him and Ellams would have regained his rightful place as our number 3.

There you go who needs mystic Meg.

Basty is by far the better left back, & it was his return to the first team that started our present good run.

Better than Ellam's??????? I think you've forgotten some of the performances Ellam's was putting in before he got injured in the Leverstock FA Cup match. Basty was a decent reserve to have come in and Bardle has filled in ok til now against the 'weaker' teams in the league although the likes of Potters Bar and W Forest are always tricky games. I will accept there has been an improvement in his contribution to some extent, like yellow cards and general discipline.

In the games i've watched Basty has benefitted from being in a better team along with better players. He has also had to come down a peg or two from being in the 'player power' clique he was amongst at the time with the likes of Tickner, Crace etc In fact the overhaul of players is what we needed. We no longer have anyone who will undermine the managers as was the case in the last two seasons or so and that has shown in the improvement of our league standings bearing in mind the budget available to run the team has had to be decreased.

Additionally, I think i need to say that Rudi Hall has also benefitted from being amongst this crowd, although he did play up at the start of the season when he was not in the starting line up. Unlike many at the Town he is not my favourite team member, however his attitude and discipline has improved to unrecognisable levels in my view and has a role to play as a senior player and long servent at the club however I still think that his sole asset is from dead balls only and falls short in open play. Saying that I am more a fan of his than last season and thats mainly cos he is probably being managed better.

There was a time that we'd be in despair when the likes of Chris Wilde left our team to bigger and better challenges however Mark Kirby has played admirably at centre half along with Mckay,

On a note I found it humerous when my 11 year old son told be had become friends with Stuart Blackburne on Facebook, now I believe that could'nt have happened in the past, or am I wrong again?

Havent managed to make the last few maybe i should stay away !

i have been impressed with the transition this season from mid table nobody's into real promotion candidates. obviously the managemnt and player changes have made us feel like we have our club back!

ive been impressed with our signings and goals from all over the park. goals from defenders, and more encouraging the midfielders which is promising and our three up top Stuart, Wallace and now Hope will fit into any side at this level!

anybody have any views they'd like to post on who has caught the eye and helped us to the near summit of the Ryman 1 table ??

Up the town !!

Safehands.

Steph-Brilliant line (or more accyrately 2 words), I should take a picture of my 3 kids with there heads stuck in laptops, to show you the power of the net. Then again, you know what facebook is.

Safehands-One big kick in the mid drift to you (good natured kick of course) for not attending some of the recent games. In my humble view we needed to move on from Jim Chandlers resignation of 2 years ago and the board have recognised that their initial managerial appointment of AL and SM was a poor one and as Gazza questioned mant a posting ago 'were they really the best ones for the job. In hindsight No they were not.

But we all know that now.

The difference this season is we do have the best available applicants for the managerial post in place and in charge. They've given a squad 15 games to prove themselves and after losing to ETU, W&F, Northwood and Concord in the trophy it was neccessary to be ruthless in the changes. Roberto, Shayne jonson, Ruari Smith, Ross Edwards, Matt Thompson, Andy Jones, Fabio have all been left out either after injuries or from not coming upto scratch.

The surge in my opinion has come fro a better balanced team, especially in midfield and up front, the addition of Ben Hammond has been a great success and Sam Byfield has shown he has a quality left foot, although a bit lightweight Marks and Rudi are a balanced pairing in central midfield. Wallace up front is phenomeonal by far the most able footballer in our squad, and he is scoring goals whereas he was a slow off the mark in early season, but I cant praise his ability enough. As for Liam Hope, he is a silent assaisin. He lacks pace but by playing the ball into him he has good vision and a wonderful first touch that opens up our opposition, he is also worth a goal a game, its no secret the goals have piled in since he arrived, he is like a Teddy Sheringham at our level of course, all brains and first touch. Kirby and Mackay are well balanced in CD and have made (to date) Chris Wilds exit irrelevant. In fact does anyone think Chris Wild would get back into our team should he return???? Food for thought.

Add the absence of Ellam's, Blower and Blackburne we are looking a very strong squad.

Above all though the managers have been in control and from what I can see and detect is, if an individuel dont like it then its good bye, there is no player power and no outside undermining of last season. The board need praise for their appointment as much as the criticism's they got for the previous appointment. The managers have been first class and the players have been of not only good ability but of first class character too. Add to that the remarkable change in our disciplinary record, shows we are winning games by playing football and not kicking the oppo off the field as was the case in previous seasons. I'm so glad those herberts have now gone and good riddance too.

So Safehands, I hope i've answered your initial post thoroughly enough, but it's only my view as is for you to do yourself a good deed, grab a mate or two as the more we get through the turnstiles the better and hopefully we can be watching Prem football sooner rather than later. In fact its upto every supporter to talk our club up (deservedly so too) and get more support for the team.

excellent letter from basty on the website. well done, have a good trip, hope to see you back soon.

I dont wanna labour my point on Basty........However.......I will.......

Disagree with it being an excellent letter, unless your referring to it's grammer, then again it should be good grammer being a school teacher.

He missed out the fact he walked out on us supporters last season when we needed him most and in effect said to us- its all yours i'm getting out of here. Not to mention his rebellious nature against the previous management and being part of the clique who tried to dictate to us supporters who should be in and who should be out the team.

Facts are its not that Basty has been good for us but the new management team have been good for Basty, they brought him into line and I'm not shy to say that Basty filled the left backs spot in Ellam's absence sufficiently for us to weather the void. His discipline has improved too which was a relief.

My views are a totally footballing one and not one that is judging Basty's personal character, of that, i'm sure he is a good socialiser and of good character.

Having said all this, I admire his planned trip, envy his World Cup excersion and wish him good health and luck.
