Weather and pitch's

Recommended Posts

With all the bad weather and more to come, what is ruling if there is one on non league clubs having a 3g pitch?I understand the cost is an issue but put that against the cost of maintaining a grass pitch and the revenue an all weather 3g pitch would create surely this may be the way forward for non league clubs,I believe cwfc spent a small fortune on thier pitch in the summer, for it to be f^*ked by Xmas.teams that ground share, dorking for example where a back log of games for them and bookham will continue to be a problem.I think the pitch would pay for itself,it could be in use 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.finally the football that would be played or should I say could be played on these pitch's would be fast and exciting.I look forward to your opinions, krooner will probably poo poo it.;)

3G's are allowed in football as long as they meet the FIFA standards but I think they're too expensive.

Up to half a million quid to install a full size pitch and the maintenence costs aren't cheap.

All the blood, sweat and spit gets stuck in the sand which has to be decomtaminated and replaced regularly, they need regular treatment to stop moss growing, the fibres wear down after as little as five years which means areas of the pitch have to be renovated or replaced at great expense.

A few non-league clubs use these pitches and the maintenance costs are said to be in the region of £10000 a year.

I suppose you could get that back by hiring out the pitch but it'll have be used a hell of a lot to get all the money back. They're probably not a bad idea for local authorities and schools to use for multiple sports but I can't see them catching on big time by football clubs unless the costs come down a lot. Unless of course the councils and funding people decide to pay most of the installation costs.

And they're not fool-proof when it comes to the weather. The groundhoppers were saying 5 out of the 6 games due to be played on the grounds with 3G pitches in the Manchester area on December 19th were postponed as the pitches were frozen.

Anyway - they're on 4G pitches now. Haven't got a clue what the difference is. I expect 4G are even more expensive.

Thanks for the reply,I didn't realise there clubs that had them in action.if schools and local sports clubs wanted to use these pitch's then the local authority should get involved.groundless clubs like feltham, bookham ,badshot, bedfont green and even staines lamas(as they can't develop there current home)should badger the life out of the local authority,as a stadium and facility like that in the local community is a must have to keep grass roots football going and councils forget this.

I agree with what VP says but I would expect the costs to come down over the next few years. My suggestion is that the FA intorduce a 1% levy on all transfer fees and that money is given to grassroots level to fund 4g pitches for local community clubs.

A local community club would be one that has football running from soccer schools to a mens team. This then has the full involvement of the local community and benefits everyone.

I don't think there's a need for a 1% levy as the Premier League already put , I think, £20 million a year into the Football Foundation but they never seem to get any credit for it.

There was a piece on the Surrey FA website a while ago saying their aim was to have a 3g pitch in every local authority in the county. They've announced the Football Foundation have agreed to part fund three more of them.

Tooting & Mitcham are getting one and a couple of schools in Croydon and Spelthorne. There's already one at Ash Manor which Aldershot recently used for training and Walton Casuals will have use of one alongside the Surrey FA Disability League and Chelsea. The total cost of the facilities in Walton was £1.7 million but that did include changing rooms as well.

Their isn't one in Surrey Heath yet Kroons. I wonder if our council will be as willing as others to part fund one?

http://www.surreyfa....lFacilities.htm

But it looks like the immediate future is that they're only going to be used for training for our sort of level of football - as I said, I don't think it's viable for one club to have exclusive use of them but they're fine for wider community use.

Covers were mentioned recently as well - Aldershot pointed out on their website that, from next season, every team in League 2 (Division 4 in old money) and above must have either undersoil heating or covers. Of course, that'll soon trickle down to the Conference.

A few years ago Jonno and i were training on the Ash Mannor pitch playing for Ash (obviously), i thought it was amazing to trrain on every week. When the weather was terrible any no one could train we were up there on a great facility, and when a game was called off we played a mix of first vs reserves on there on the saturday. We finished 3rd that year!

I would love to play on that every week never have to worry about the ball bobbling up on you! etc... but but realisticly i cant see it happening.

3G Pitch is a great idea and there is one very local to Woking (not cobham unfortunatly) that is heaving. You have to book months in advance because there are 5 a side tournements and clubs from all around Woking training there or a group of people enjoying football in ideal conditions. If councils had some a bit of sense they would stick one in the local Cobham area. There is plenty space around the ground and would be used constantly aswell as be ideal for the football club.

As a club we are looking for an all weather facility but we just can't find one around cobham or anywhere local so it looks like training and matches stops due to weather for now.

This is why I raised the point, cobham is a well off area surely £10,000 there is not a lot of money, what about the little football club round the corner they could have one built next to your ground???cwfc have plenty of land and there's a disused rugby field opposite,Kingston borough isn't poor either, once again football clubs at this level need more backing from councils and government need to back sport in general,I thought that was thier pledge to get the olympics.how much to use a goals pitch? £48 per hour I think and there always packed out.bedfont sports where my boy trains has a cracking one and the bedfont board weren't so backward they couldve had one put in.

Last meeting we had at Feltham about the restart to work on the arena, there was proposals going off to league and FA about the permission for 3G to be installed. Not sure on the latest......

That is true, there are currently new people getting involved with the club to push things and actually make things happen. Some of this guys are pretty big in council/local government role from what I know. Who knows!

I wish you luck, cos I believe we as a football community need to keep as many clubs going as possible, look at hartley Witney and what they've done for cove.
