Once again the weather put paid to the majority of matches on Tuesday evening, with The Urchin's match at Waltham Abbey falling foul of a frozen pitch. So the squad are hoping for better weather on Saturday when they make the journey round the M25 to face Boreham Wood. Boreham Wood were away at league leaders Dartford on Tuesday, but their match also fell foul of the elements. Should there be any weather related issues we will update the forum, twitter & website.

The two teams have already met once this season in the league, when The Urchins beat Boreham Wood 2-1 with goals from Paul Shave & Joe Stevens. The Wood's goal came from the boot of Lee Allinson. Boreham Wood are one place above the Urchins in the table, so a close fought match is likely.

History:- Boreham Wood Football Club celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary Season in 1998/99, having been formed in 1948, following the amalgamation of Boreham Rovers and Royal Retournez.

Present Club Chairman and owner, Danny Hunter, purchased Boreham Wood Football Club on the 17 August 1999. Danny’s late father, Micky Hunter, was Manager of Boreham Wood in the late Sixties and early Seventies, and Danny himself played for the Club’s Reserve Team in the mid-eighties.

Since taking over the Club, Danny has introduced a Youth Structure and a very successful P.A.S.E. Scheme, that will provide a sound base for the Club’s future, added to a new and thriving Community programme, that will include coaching in Schools and after School coaching at the Club.

The Youth Policy introduced in 2000/01 and the introduction of the P.A.S.E. side has brought a renewed freshness to the Club, and with ever spiralling playing costs at this level, the way forward will be producing young talent of its own to complement the more experienced members of the Playing Staff. A Suburban Football League side was re-introduced in 2006/07 and competes in the Suburban Football League Northern Division.

A new Meadow Park ground record attendance was set on Friday 13 July 2001, when 4,030 spectators watched a very strong Arsenal side beat Boreham Wood 0 – 2 in a Pre-Season Friendly match. Francis Jeffers and Dennis Bergkamp scored the Gunners goals.

In its formative years the Club progressed through the Mid-Herts. League, Parthenon League, Spartan League and Athenian League before joining the Isthmian Football League in 1974/75. It won the Division Two Championship in 1976/77 by sixteen points. The Club had a five Season spell in the Premier Division during the late Seventies and early Eighties, and enjoyed another, much more successful spell in the Premier Division, during the nineties, which sadly ended in relegation at the end of the 1999/2000 Season. However, the Club bounced back quickly and was once again promoted back to the Premier Division as Ryman Football League Division One Champions in 2000/2001. Under the leadership of Club Chairman Danny Hunter and Graham Roberts as Team Manager, a strong Squad of talented players was formed and the Club won fourteen of its last nineteen League games to secure the Division One Championship.

The 1997/98 Season was without doubt one of the most successful in the Club’s history. Boreham Wood finished as Ryman (Isthmian) Football League Premier Division Runners-up, their highest ever League position. The Club also won the London F.A. Challenge Cup, and were Runners-up to Watford in the Hertfordshire F.A. Senior Challenge Cup. In the F.A. Challenge Cup, the Club actually made the draw for the Third Round, but lost at home to Cheltenham Town, in a Second Round Replay, the furthest progress ever made!

Following the Football Association restructuring of Non-League football in 2004, Boreham Wood competed in the Southern Football League Division One East for two Seasons.

The 2005/06 Season was another highly successful Season in the Club’s history. In the F.A. Challenge Trophy, the Club reached the Semi-Finals, losing to Woking over two legs, having beaten Ilford, Bromley, Stamford, Leighton Town, Gravesend & Northfleet all at home, and Crawley Town and Worksop Town both away in earlier Rounds. The Club also won the Southern Football League Division One East Championship title and as a result returned to play in the Ryman Football League Premier Division in the 2006/07 Season, where it finished in seventh place, just missing out on the “Play-offs”. In 2007/08 the Club’s Youth structure proved very successful one again, but the First Team had a disappointing Season and was relegated from the Premier Division. However, the Club gained a reprieve from relegation due to the demise of Halifax Town Football Club and will therefore continue in the Ryman Football League Premier Division in 2008/09. In July 2008 the Club transferred leading goal scorer Simon Thomas to Crystal Palace for a Club record undisclosed fee.

Over the years the Club has had many successes in Hertfordshire F.A. Cup Competitions, including winning the Senior Challenge Cup in 2007/08, as well as in the London F.A. Senior Cup and Challenge Cup. Boreham Wood reached the Final of the Isthmian League Full Members Cup in 1994/95 and 1995/96 and won the Isthmian Football League Cup in 1996/97. During the Nineties the Club’s Stadium facilities were continually upgraded, and a Football Conference ground grading was achieved in 1996. The Club has throughout the present owner's tenure spent a further £5.5 million upgrading all areas.

After gaining planning permission and funding, building has been completed on a full sized, state of the art Artificial Training Pitch and Changing Rooms. The future is now bright throughout the Club. Boreham Wood Football Club will now hopefully push for Conference football, with sound structures in place, and a Club that utilises all its facilities 52 weeks of the year. The Club has a Conference graded Stadium already in place, and optimism is returning to Meadow Park.
