It's time to draw a line

Recommended Posts

I have heard today that some games were called off really late and the away teams were made to travel all the way only to be told that the game was off due to a frozen pitch.Southend Manor and Basildon were the ones affected as far as i know. They travelled to Barkingside and Sawbo respectively which are at a good travelling distance.Would it be sensible for the home clubs to make a pitch inspection no later than 12.15 so they can give enough notice to the away team. Most of players at this level fork their own petrol money and sometimes take time off work to go and play a game of football. Now i hope they get refunded their travelling expenses but i'm not holding my breath for that.Clubs take sometimes gambles with their pitch without using a bit of common sense.I know we want as many games to go ahead but i found it to be an unfair tactics especially towards those players that have to get that petrol money out of their pockets.Going all the way to Sawbo and wasting a tenner for a 20 years old player on a part-time job,can be a burden.Think about it,not everyone can afford it sometimes.... :signthankspin:

Bethnal Green..........all the way to stansted............game called off at 2.20pm while they were warming up, fekin disgrace

It has happened quite a few times over the years. It's not nice and it's a waste of time and money to people. We could have tried our luck today and wait till 3pm for the pitch to thaw but it would have been unfair to the Enfield contingent, considering the temperature didn't raise that much today.Sometimes common sense should apply, unless it's a local derby and there is not too much travelling involved then you can afford to take a bit of gamble with the weather. It's really annoying i have got to say that... :frown:

really cant criticise sawbo today, at 9 30 i was told there was a slight frost on the pitch but the sun was out and i agreed that there was no real need for a 10.30 pitch inspection. we arrived at the ground at 1 30 to discover that one small strip was still a bit frozen as the sun hadnt shone on that area because of the shade of the stand, both teams wanted to play and ive seen one hundred matches played on harder pitches, in fact this time last season we played on a rock hard pitch at clapton.

yes there was a slight risk of injury to a player as there always is on hard pitches but as i say both teams wanted to play, the result is that the match officials get their fees paid and both teams lose money on a mid week match.

Not good !

Totally agree with you Coachie, at Witham when i was contacting the ref's I would get it organized for 11am if bad, i know this season Witham have even done it the day before as was obvious to all that things would not get better and it was proved right with worse the following day, so well day Tony Last....

Worst one i had was when i was a young lad in the late 80's the Shrimipers had an away trip to Grimsby and i got to Doncaster on the A1 before it came over the radio. Must of been about 1.30pm-2pm.

Saying that and from reading the post above from a Basildon Utd official it is not always obvious and has he put it was playable at 11am, so can't blame Sawbo, just bad luck, which happens.
