Close encounters of the FA Cup

Excellent article in today's Daily Mail around the magic of the FA Cup. Scroll down to the comments by Harry Redknapp, great to see a Premiership manager giving WEFC a plug! It's funny how whenever Harry is an FA Cup pundit on tv, he always recalls the Bournemouth v Windsor game whenever he's asked about Bournemouth beating Man United. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1240019/Close-encounters-kind-Former-FA-Cup-heroes-look-round-clashes-remember--forget.html

Is that a quote from Match of the Day, as i remember him on that after the Man Utd game saying something very similar. I was chatting to my brother and he remembers a 2 page spread on Windsor in the Sun(before the match after the draw of the 3rd round had been made), he's pretty sure it was Geoff Chappell as manager, imagine us getting two pages in any of the tabloids these days, the only thing I would sure about is it wouldn't be to do with football!!!!

[brings me to tears everytime I think about it....

Biggest crowd ever down the meadow - over 3000 with some watching from half way up the floodlights.

Genuinely thought we were going to win and then at 0-0 we hit the post in the last minute...

Relay at Dean Court and the rest as they say is history...

Would we have played Man Ure at the meadow? Griffin park or Old Trafford? we'll never know ! :coffee (2):

Chris yates was sooooo close, ahhh memories......

I believe the plan was reverse the tie and play at Old Trafford, take the money and enjoy the day. What a day out that would have been, scary to think that was 26 years ago though.

I do wonder if at the time we were the lowest placed team to have made the first round proper in 1980-81 season, can't remember too many very low teams making it through to that stage, what with extra prelims, very strong conference cup teams and no money at the lowest levels like today buying in higher level players to jump up the leagues. Our team was awesome and the fact that the players went through the leagues and never looked out of their depth is testament to that.

That Wimbledon game was Dave Beasant's FA Cup debut as well, we got a mention in a shoot! magazine when he was asked about his first FA Cup game
