Pitch inspection for Marlow game?

Recommended Posts

It's going to be informally checked at 11. I want to give it as much chance as possible to go on today and we're currently clear skies just down the road but was frozen overnight. The current expected forecast is that the temperature is picking up throughout the course of the day and will be at its peak for 3pm.

Have to agree with reading Rebel...top end of the ground still in shade , sun can't get on that end...Gary awaiting for ref's inspection...

Chris, are you saying that Gary has done the informal inspection and is now waiting for the Ref to turn up and inspect the pitch?

If so, any idea what time he will be doing this?

I will be going out very shortly and cannot access a computer, If I phone the clubhouse later will there be a mesage saying game is off or on?

Sadly yes. Even in the near half to the clubhouse end it was frozen through at 11.20 when it wasn't going to get much warmer and the far end was covered in shade and not going to get better. It had even begun to snow lightly just after the inspection!

There was a lot of cloud heading over in the direction of Beaconsfield so the sun wasn't going to get to any parts of the pitch and particularly with that far end it was always going to be a problem.

"great news we had a 253 attendance" - taken from the windsor forum.

This was on a holiday weekend when windsor are top of their leauge, un-beatern, and no other games were on - 253!

Staines cant you respond to a Windsor poster without making digs?

For what its worth a crowd 100 more than average this season with little away fans and a few neturals isnt bad going at all. Our last four games at the meadow have had 200+ plus crowds so are going in the right direction. Something which hasnt been happening at many local clubs.

If you wish to carry on PM me. No one else cares.

26-12-03 Slough v w&e attendance 680 1-3

26-12-05 Slough v w&e attendance 609 0-3

Sure, it's not as big as when Slough games brought 600+ crowds. It wouldn't be. Uxbridge don't pull anything like that many at home, never mind away on a very cold day with minimal public transport, to a team with no particular rivalry. And they're not the nearest team playing at the same ground.

(Not to mention that having the game on New Year's Day rather than the Saturday is maybe not actually best for crowds, as some folk were still suffering and others have family commitments on holidays as 'special' days).

But I've bemoaned the loss of most of our local rivals before - we don't get derbies against Slough, Burnham, Marlow, even Beaconsfield. Bracknell are closest, and they're suffering these past two years. So getting our best league gate of the season against a team that is not particularly local, not a huge name and (realistically) probably doesn't bring a big following indicates a good trend. Well over double what we were getting at the start of the season, or most matches last year.

I guess you're not so happy with the Slough figures this year?

p.s. Woody, we may not appreciate it but I think it's fair for him to make digs at Windsor on the Slough board! Where else could he do it?

The point i was making, obviously not very well was that the games postponed are to be blamed on the bad weather however disapointed fans feel its not usually the clubs fault.

Why the subject of crowd size should come up i don't know. But we at windsor are pleased at the progress, there is a good atmosphere and buzz about the place and it seems like everyone is pulling together. For a small club like ours if we can average 200-250 by the end of the season i would be happy.

So its understandable then that sycob wasn't able to get the boxing day match to go ahead then given the similar conditions.

Windsorian, the Boxing day postponement was mainly due to the car park and approachway being frozen not the pitch unlike yesterdays game which was unavoidably postponed due to a frozen pitch.
