Has the layout of this messageboard changed on everyone else's computer as well? I HATE IT, its much slower to load, and there's a huge gap on the left hand side. I'm hoping I'll be able to change it all, but I haven't tried yet.

I've just noticed some new things up top - 'Games arcade' 'Graffiti wall' whats that? and if I use it, will I be sent to prison for 20 years by CANV, Pabird, and Uncle <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

There are some people who make changes to improve the layout, make navigation easier, allow faster access; others to show their design flair: structure, texture etc.; and others to be technologically innovative: HLMT stuff.

 

Then there's this guy.

 

I knew that it we would regret it when Webbo sold the message board to Canvey Island. £5 million he trousered for that. Didn't even buy us a drink. The only amusing part about the Enfield Town story last week is that the Town fans still think that it's their own message board. "Ramifications"!!. And they have bought it. Hook, line and sinker.

 

Anyway, back to the point.

 

Mine is the same speed as the last one. However, when reading a post, only the left half of it is on the screen and I have to do the scroll thing at the bottom to read the whole thing. A minor inconvenience, I appreciate, but it would be good to hear if Rob the Saint could change that for me. I wouldn't want any special treatment, of course.

 

Oh, by the way. What's a 'graemlin'?

 

P.S. Just looked at the 'Who's on line bit. What's a "User Agent"?

What problems are you seeing - let me know, and I will try and correct the issues. If you can take a screenshot that would help.

Ian - I'm not really annoyed, just a bit surprised (my first message was slightly tongue-in-cheek). The only thing that is slightly bothersome is the fact the messages no longer take up the whole screen, about 1/4 of the screen (the left hand side) is now taken up with: A list of forums, my details, who's online, some ads, and the shout box. I preferred to have these things on the first page, rather than with the messages. Is there any way I can change this back?

If you click on 'My Home', you can get access to a sheet for customising your screen. One of the Options is to have the forum menu thing on the left or right of your screen thing. I moved mine from left to right. Now the whole message is displayed and I don't have to use the scrolling thing at the bottom. It's quite easy really. There are other things you can do, including having 20 posts displayed. it's quite straightforward, actually. If you have any problems and I can help, please let me know.

 

Oh, by the way. Now I'm getting to know my way around the site, can I be a Moderator or Director, please?

 

What's this expression 'slag off'? It's all Webbo's fault for selling our message board to Canvey in the first place.

 

Design? I'm a little more of a post-modernist, myself.

If you do not like the theme - you can select one of another 40 odd that I have put up.

 

For example if you like the colours but hate the metal strip at the top of read posts, select Aqua (No Metal) - if you need your print larger select the 'Large' versions.

 

The left side will be developed in your case, you will shortly have links to SACFC results, form guide, table, attendances etc. You are currently viewing the generic one.

LOL - I wish!

 

More like it costs me £5 each time - I personally spend in excess of £1,000 a year running this site - and last night invested in a brand new server to purely run it - so this bill will only increase. But you will soon have photos to enjoy, and possibly even your own radio station.

 

Have a look around, and you will see small additions here and there - for example you now have a linmk to Graemlins on the left of the quick reply box. (greamlins are smilies i.e. etc.) I have a large number to add for people to enjoy.

BTW - the new server is dual processor, with double the memory that this server has, so I am hoping it will get even faster. I will switch to that shortly.

Seems a lot quicker to me. I've fixed your scrolling problem, I think. 'Graemlins' are those funny little face things that people put at the end of their messages. 'User agent'? Well, you probably don't want to know.

 

I recommend the Graemlin Paintball shootout in the Games Arcade when you've got a moment, very good for relieving stress.

Also in the postlist screen, you can now see the name of the person last to post in each thread, without opening the thread up - this was a request in here a few months ago.

Ian - a quick point, I think some of our regular users (one in particular being Mr Zeal) are experiencing technical difficulties When I first went to the board this morning, through my favourites, it told me the board was experiencing technical difficulties. Zeal has just emailed me telling the same thing. I shall reply give him the new? URL. But is there anything you can do about this so other users don't get the same problem?

It's strange, its quick to intitially load, but then the message strings seem to take longer to appear. I've just noticed the Graffiti wall appears to be anonymous. I wonder how long that will last!

Got the IP's back, and also it tells you on the list of posts who the last poster on each thread was. So that's much better.

 

Just don't like that bit on the left hand side. It's far too wide.
