Jarvis: 'Slough won't win the league'

From his time at Windsor and playing against us he was a thug and his tactics at Burnham and Beaconsfield reflect this. He tries to wind everyone up and when he is found out and his team starts to fail it will all fall apart and he'll probably go off to Flackwell or somewhere equally keen to secure his services and band of players, assuming there is enough money there of course.

 

I won't necessarily disagree with the description of his playing style; I don't actually think he went out to hurt, and he was a pretty good defender overall, but maybe he was more concerned with preventing the goal than he was with certain niceties of clean play, or at least that's a polite way of putting it...

 

But if you look at what he's done at both Beaconsfield and Burnham, I don't see you can deny he's an effective manager at this level. I'm not sure what the disciplinary record of either team is/was under Jarvo, but it's clearly not so bad as to harm the performance of either team - at least not compared to where they were without him (and his 'band'). Also, don't forget how the players under him do appreciate him as a leader.

Maybe he's motivated by money (not so greatly unusual!) but I think more than a few teams regret underestimating him as a manager over the last few years...

 

None of which is any reason to pay attention to the mind games he's trying. Slough are doing well after some very hard seasons (and a bit of luck) and don't need to worry about the tricksy bits.
