... their striker victor is goin to malta on a grand a week contract"

Any truth in it??

Since that would mean about 80% of our average gate going to him every week, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess 'No'.

(unless they mean a Maltese team have offered him £1000/week to play for them. I'd guess No to that also but I suppose it's possible, even if very improbable).

I wouldn't be surprised to hear he's getting a tenth of that or so - if he is on contract at all: and I also heard that there are paid bonuses per goal scored, although I don't know if that's correct. Overall I think our budget is among the higher in the league (top 8 or so), don't know if it is the highest but I'd doubt it: however we have had official comments that it's 'suitable' for a team targeting promotion... I'll say one thing, looking at the team it's surely one of the best-spent.

Blimey dan you do like making a mountain out of a molehill ( well i hope it is!)

I read that Victor after leaving AFC Hayes played aboard and then SYCOB brought him back to England before he joined us. So hopefully that's where the wires have got crossed.

Then again who'd say no to decent weather and getting paid a fair amount for playing football!?

Let's hope SYCOB organised his International Clearance then else the league table could change quite dramatically ;)

On a more serious note, do we think the match is going to be on Saturday?? The forecast doesn't indicate the freezing conditions letting up...

Doubt it. The early kick off will most likely put paid to it.

The weather looks marginally better later in the week. At the moment the highest temp for Sat is a whopping 5'c.

As Woody said though the early kick off could scupper it. Hopefully the ref will be prepared to wait a bit before calling it off.

If the forecast is correct then by midday the pitch should be ok but if the ref turns up at 10am and does his inspection then, it will probably be frozen at that time.

Surely our landlords have brushed that off by now to give the game the best chance?

Wonder what heath and safety would make of those steps down there! Could you imagine if we did one of the 'running' celebrations. We'd be in a big heap of broken bones within seconds! :97:

To be honest I didn't think it was THAT cold compared to the previous few days. Most of the road were ice free it was just bloomin congestion. Took me 4 and 3/4 hours to get from Uxbridge to Windsor!!

Who knows about Saturday, but if it is called off we enter 2010 undefeated in the league, can't be many teams that have doen that at our level I wouldn't have thought?

also, going back to the original thread, to lose Victor would be a loss to the team, however the way Scotty rotates the squad reduces the reliance on one player, so we do have alternatives to losing a key player. I wonder how many other teams could lose their top striker for the season and still have a very strong team capable of pushing for the title without replacing him.

I would be more concerned about losing the likes of Fagan or Butts

The game will be on if the two clubs concerned get their heads together and put the kick off time back a bit.

I reckon mid-August should just about do it.........rain.gif
