Haringey Borough v Fisher - London Senior Cup 2nd Round

Recommended Posts

I think today's million, sorry billion, dollar question is whether the beleaguered Haringey Borough v Fisher London Senior Cup 2nd Round tie will finally go ahead at Coles Park this evening at the fifth, or is it sixth, attempt, I gather the pitch inspection is taking place 'as we speak' but Fisher won't be best pleased if it is called off yet again.

I went past Coles Park yesterday and had a peep through the gate at the pitch...Didn't look too bad although I was looking from a long way off..... I took a few pictures which i'll put up on the cold end (http://www.thecoldend.blogspot.com) ASAP...

What is wrong with their pitch?? Is it just the bucket loads of rain we've had or something else??

The Cold End - If you scroll down to the bottom of the link below you will see that I painstakingly tracked down the Coles Family when I was at Haringey Borough and got to know them pretty well, I was in the process of writing a book on the Club, in partnership with Bruce Castle Museum, which would have been ready for their Centenary year however 'Sugar' even ridiculed that idea. The Coles Family say that the soil is clay based but it wouldn't take a huge sum of money, probably 35k, to get the issue resolved once and for all and 'Sugar' would easily be able to get funding:

I suspect it's just me being obtuse, but where exactly does it tell us on that website that you had "painstakingly tracked down the Coles Family?" From what I can see it merely states that you got in touch with the web author who does appear to have done some painstaking research.

Is your painstaking research the bit where it says "having come across this website" (presumably via google)?

Or can we only see the truth by "reading between the lines?"

What was interesting was your quote - "We are extremely proud to play at Coles Park. It a lovely site envied by all the clubs in our league... Should you wish to visit us for a fixture, we will certainly roll out the red carpet for you." How times have changed!

I also wonder whether people still turn up at Coles Park and ask for you, expecting the "red carpet treatment"

MarkHayward - Thanks for letting us know, why wasn't that done from day one, after the first postponement, when it was obvious you wouldn't play the tie at Coles Park in a month of Sunday's

Sjj2112 - Well you said it not me, 'Sugar's' not a touchy feely person at all so I very much doubt it

I don't know Rhodes,i don't get involved with club politics,i suppose you just hope the weather got better, and the problem to be resolved, unfortunately the weather hasn't been kind. The problem i believe is on one side of the pitch, and as in any club funds are limited, but believe this matter is being delt with.As i say i don't venture into club matters, but im sure those involved at the club are not too pleased either at the postponments.

I was not making any point at all about current Haringey people.

I was highlighting how you have changed, from calling Coles Park the envy of the league to your now constant sniping at those same facilities.

Sjj2112 - Again if you scroll down to near the bottom of the link below you will read more about the partnership I set up between the Club and the Coles Family. Coles Park could well be the envy of the Spartan League and Non League Football as a whole come to that, Spurs are a stones throw away and Lord Triesman used to go to watch Haringey Borough play when he was still in short trousers and mentioned the Club he loves in the Non League paper yet I'll wager 'Sugar' hasn't even dropped him a line:

Where exactly? I can see no mention of a "partnership" set up by anybody, let alone you.

Sjj2112 - The actual word 'partnership' isn't mentioned on the Website but that's what it was, the Coles Family would have played a key role in the book about the Club

If you are going to claim to have done something and seek to provide "evidence" to back up that claim it is always better if the "claim" and the "proof" are plain for all to see.

You may be able to "read between the lines" and see whatever you want to see there but the rest of us need to have it spelled out a bit more clearly.

Sjj2112 - This is what I mean about you being far too serious and playing everything by the book, a bit like Football Man. Why would you want proof that I set up an innovative partnership with the Coles Family whilst I was at Haringey Borough, why not just take my word for it.

I don't want proof. I don't really care.

The point I was making is that you offered a link saying that it was proof of what you had done. For those of us that bothered to look all we found was a website with some very tenuous links to Haringey Borough. It didn't, in any way, back up what you were claiming.

Had you said that you had set up the partnership and left it at that then nobody would have given it a second thought. By providing the "evidence" you did to back up your claim just raised more questions than answers.

Sjj2112 - Okay, try this link for size, if you check the bottom line you will see me credited, not that I am looking for any credit. I suppose you will pick holes in that too:
