A few statistics

I have made a start on the 4 Christmas and New Year programmes and have found a few mores statistics that can be exported from the software I use. I will post some of these on here as I go along as some may be of interest. Unfortunately, as html cannot be posted in this forum they are all in the form of attached images.

The first one is goals scored and conceded. Goals is the number of goals, 0-45 is the percentage of those goals that have come in the first half, 46-90 is the percentage of them in the second half, Per Game is the number of goals per game, Avg Min is the average goal time and Mins Per is the number of minutes between each goal.

If that is as confusing to you as it is to me, if you look at the 'Away Goals for', Margate have scored 17, 47% have been in the first half, 52% in the second half (presumably the odd 1% was lost in rounding up/down), at an average of 1.7 goals per game. The average time of scoring away is the 56th minute while we have, on average, scored an away goal every 52 minutes.

The interesting thing that I found in this one is that, other than home goals against, we have both scored and conceded more goals both home and away in the second half. Might start turning up at half-time!

I presume Mark B has a similar analysis........? Intersteing from the perspective of your opposition I'd suggest.

This next one shows the final outcomes of games where we have either scored first or our opponents have scored first (in the image it says 'OUTCOME WHEN SCORING SECOND' but it actually means when the opponents scored first). We are the third best in the league at coming from behind (insert drumroll ahead of childish laughter).

Last one for now.

This one shows the number of goals scored and conceded in each 15 minute period of the game. Surprisingly we have scored more than we have conceded in the last 15 minutes but seem to have only scored three times in the first half hour.

I think that last stat is the key one.

It seems to me that we are a very 'reactionary' side.

We never impose ourselves.

The first 35 mins, the side plays probing football all ok without it really being effective.

Occasionally we will score first but continue to play the probing style of football, but invariably the opposition scores first and we react to the situation-normally by panic - but occasionally by playing a more forceful game (cray late on and yesterday apparently ).

I guess it comes back to confidence-particuarly with a youngish side and players not really established in the team;but is there something for MB and SB to work on here we we play a more pressing game early on-'come out of the traps running' and endeavouring to impose ourselves as opposed to react to the opposition.

Not easy-and football is mainly playe on grass as opposed to the mind and a bit of paper-but if there was a 10% improvement in this area, would it make a difference?

Does any of that make sense ?

Another one that may be of interests is assists. These may not be assists as normally calculated as these are generally the last payer to touch the ball before the scorer.

For example, Curtis Robinson gets an assist for the ball to Joseph when he scored against Harrow. Normally I do not think he would get the assist as Joseph took a couple of touches before scoring, but in my eyes Curtis still set the goal up by supplying the scorer.

These are for all games, league and cup.

Wilson 5

Robinson, C 3

Healy 3

Dunn 1

Stubbs 1

Cliff 1

Blackman 1

Lacy 1
