Christmas tradition of losing games

No doubt the stattos will tell me i am wrong, but i can't remember when we last took more than 50% of the points available from the traditional Christmas 2/3 games.

Indeed-i seem to recall that we normally get about 1 point from the 6 or 9 available;and are full of Christmas humbug

I wonder whether MB is aware of this tradition (similar to not winning cup games)

At least we have progressed one more round in the league cup this year-and i am so pleased that MB seems to take it seriously.

You need those cup games in the dark Jan/Feb days to keep interest alive.

Would it not just be great if MB can again break with tradition and get at least 7 points from the 9 available over the Xmas period from the two Maidstone and the Tonbridge game.

What a fillip to club, player, manager and supporters that would be.

(just the small matter of sutton next week first of course)

Interesting observation about the Xmas period, which got me (Statto1) checking the archives.

We have been generally crap since about 2003, and the Xmas results have reflected that. Even in the year of Trotty's mercenaries we were WDD over Xmas, the same points percentage as the whole season. Only in season 07-08 (LDL) were we worse than usual at Xmas, but there were 4 similar runs during the season, so nothing special there.

You see, it's all in the mind Michael. How full is your glass?

Funny old Christmas this year.

It will almost be like having a family member missing at the dining table

Normally about this time, this forum is full of the Ramsgate /Margate rivalry leading up to the Christmas game.

We then normally manage to lose or at best draw with them,so i guess no bad thing that they are not around; but those 1200 plus crowds were something to look forward to ,and will be missed.

I'd like to see both clubs competing again in the premiership next season.

Any IT techo's out there who can set up a vitual Christmas derby.

Then we can have all the forum arguements and just not play the game.

Better still-maybe have a Margate/Ramsgate 'friendly' on sunday 27th !! (i am joking )

Easy in hindsight, but had it been thought through earlier,if a reserve 'floodlight'cup game had been re-arranged for sunday 27th and promoted as this years local derby game-i reckon you would have got at least 300 people coming to it

  • 2 weeks later...

A bit worried the game is on !!

Just feel we are not ready-defender and striker short- and could really struggle for points from these 3 games.

Still think that over the whole season we will be ok, but really concerned about these 3 'christmas ' games.

My head says we will get just the one point from Maidstone-lose/tonbridge-lose/maidstone-draw .

My heart can't allow it to be that bad so i'll say we will get 3 points out of a possible 9

Disagree. Margate/Ramsgate games over the festive period have been short in supply since the early 70's.
