Excellent performance from the Bees and, as you might expect, very committed.

 

Martyn Guest's 17th minute header for the hosts wiped out totally against the run of play in the 35th when they failed to clear a corner. Mark Palmer made a great reflex save from a point-blank effort but could do nothing about the follow-up.

 

Basildon restored their lead in the 58th minute with a cracking Dave Hussey free kick on the right hand edge of the penalty area and an 80th minute tap-in - from Wes Bocking, I think, but I could be wrong as I was swigging some Irn Bru at the time - sealed the win.

 

Thoroughly deserved 3 points for the Bees.

It seems that Bowers get smashed every other week at the minute, seemingley always 4-1. How is that possible on the wage budget that they are paying out!?!? Shocking!

 

Stansted go top, what a great acheivement for them.

 

Witham field a defender in goal for 90 mins after former Southend Keeper Mel Capleton is a no show - on my memories of Capleton, WItham were probably better off.

I tell you what, it was the only ESL game with live match coverage on the radio today, that I do know. It's all glamour in the broadcasting business ...

 

Gavin Axcell's lad was on the bench for Tiptree today, I noted.

weary legs?yes have to agree but Stansted were always goin to win this game!!we missed a penalty and countless 1 on 1s!Saying that mauritiuos were a very capable team!! The game was a scrapy affair with not a lot of football being played but as seems to be the norm it was the officialls who were talking point of the match!!the officials were to say the least very poor with 1 of the linesman physically not up to the task and having to be replaced at half time [by the Stansted physio]due to a "calf inj"which was impossible as he was nowhere near fit enough to move quick enough to pull anything!!the other linesman was nowhere near senior standard either!!The ref played nearly 15 mins injury time!!where he got that from i dont know!!of course everybody has "off"daysbut i beleive the standard of the league is the best for many years and really should be able to attract able officials!! it seems our league is being used as guinea pigs for new officials who are clearly not good enough,the officialls were accessed today[again]and i would love to know his oppinion of them!!Apart from that Stansted top of the league!! Whats all that about?COME ON YOU AIRPORTMEN!!!
