Do you remember about a week ago, we were talking about Rhys Madden, back at Witham on loan according to our local paper. (sorry cant remember which thread it was :smashfreakb: )

Witham Town manager Danny Greaves has urged his in-form side to continue their rise up the Essex Senior League table.

After a poor run of form, Greaves’ side have been in good shape over recent games.

Witham are unbeaten in five matches, ahead of their trip to play third-placed Bethnal Green United tomorrow.

Only five points separate seven teams in the middle of the table and Greaves wants his players to maintain their renascence.

Greaves said: “We have a couple of big games coming up now.

“If we can get results in those games, we can reel the teams in above us.

“I’ve said for a long time that I want us to be within six points of the leaders by Christmas.”

Witham suffered a blow earlier this week when they lost the services of highly-rated goalkeeper, Chris Elad.

Elad made a good impression in the short time he spent at Spa Road.

However, he has now left to join Blue Square South side Chelmsford City, where he will serve as understudy to first-choice keeper, Ashley Harrison.

“It’s very disappointing to lose Chris,” said Greaves.

“I’m not so sure it’s the right move for the boy because he won’t be playing regular first-team football.

“Chelmsford are a great club and Glenn Pennyfather is a good manager but at Chris’ age and at this time in his career, I think he should be playing.”

Greaves has tempered the loss of Elad by signing Madden on a month’s loan from Aveley.

Madden left Town in the summer as he wanted to play at a higher level.

“We never wanted Rhys to go in the first place,” added Greaves.

“He is a top keeper and a top lad.”

Ironically I know Chris too. Didn't know he was playing for you, having said that I'd take Rhys of the two given a choice.

Yeah Chris was a major reason for our turn around, gave us confidence at the back. I think we were unbeaten with Chris in goal.
