What a game!

What an atmosphere!

What a celebration!

Really good game by the 2 best teams in the league. Both teams played out of their skin and it was a great game to watch.

Both sides played good football and they was no bad challenges of any note and the players were sensible.

Great win to give us a boost and I spoke to a couple of Totton fans after the game who were very gracious in defeat and one even offered to buy me a drink so good on them.

Thanks for the comments on the scarves. They sold really well and we will have a new polo shirt in stock next week.

Doubt I'll see a better game this season - more goals, sure, but not much better play. Really, Totton were unlucky - on play I think they merited a draw at least, they were certainly the best team we've seen in the league (again!) and wasn't it nice to see two teams both out to play football. The conditions helped neither side and in the end that one brilliant through ball made the difference. And didn't Victor know how much the goal mattered!!

Even with a slippery pitch, there were no nasty fouls (a lot of sliding but I think no bad intent), and the ref may have been picky but no cards from a table-top clash was quite right on the day. I really did enjoy that.

Hope their fans did too, after turning up in good numbers: and they stayed back to keep clapping their team, which the players thoroughly deserved. Obviously I hope we get the automatic promotion, we're looking so good now, and in that case I don't see anyone else beating them in the playoff rounds. So let's hope for an equally good game next year, one division up :D

Just got back in from some pretty wild celebrations!! What a result! What a result!!

I'll add more later when i can see straight but i was celebrating that goal before he even stuck it. I think i outpaced victor in my sprint to the corner

Right then...I'm only half cut now so i'll give it a go!

Just like last year at our place Totton must be slightly dissapointed to of come away with nothing but many people behind the goal seemed to think we was always going to score on the counter! Some great defending and goalkeeping were the building blocks of that victory. Tottons left winger was one of the best crossers of the ball i've seen at this level and indeed at championship level ( The blades dont like getting the ball in the box) That said neither side created many clear cut chances but it was an entertaining game. Both sides battled hard and yet played decent football. Seems our gameplan was to let totton come onto us and hit them on the break.

Great finish by Victor and wild celebrations behind the goal! I dont remember celebrating a goal at the meadow like that since perhaps the Slough game but i think yesterday topped it celebration wise. No idea where i was running too but thank god you all followed me!!! I've got no voice left but then again i was shouting "Lino" over and over for no apparent reason at one stage!

Scarfs look great. Decent vaule for money and apparently went like 'hotcakes'

Great turnout from the totton lot not had vocal away support like that since i started coming. The totton fans i spoke to were a great bunch and i almost felt sorry for them...almost!

To stop Tottons winning run really is a massive plus but they have a few winnable games coming up so we cant take our foot off the gas. It'll be an damn shame if both sides dont get promoted this season as we're both a level above most of the sides in this league.

Bring on saturday and Scotty the Stag AND the X-mas party! Should be a cracker!!

As we say in Manchester... THAT WAS [censored] MINT!!!!!!!!

Just like last season Totton were the best footballing side we played. Really should be Windsor and Totton who get promotted (in that order please). Hope they're fans can appreciate the result as it was a fair top of the table result. It could have gone either way! Well done to Bruce for picking out Victor and playing that ball to him. Victor had a great game so I hope the Totton manager can retract his statement regarding his ability. Man of the match for me was Bully, he did brilliant! Well done to the whole team and management for yesterday, well deserved.

Lino on the main stand side was poor, the ref was decent and the other lino on the chicken run stand was decent.

As for the scarfs... top notch!!!

My other team is Reading and I regularly talk about W&E matches on their forum. Not that I would claim to have had any major influence over their decision to come yesterday, a couple of RFC supporters did pop along.

Thought you gents might be interested in seeing their comments posted on the Hobnob Anyone discussion board:

I was there yesterday. Most enjoyable footballing experience of the season. Two sides trying to play football and none of the nonsense or shennanigans of the pro game. I thought the referee had an excellent game but was obviously helped by both sets of players. You say the Totton players reacted at the end as if they had lost a cup final. Well, W&E celebrated as if they had won a cup final.

Great experience and looking forward to my next appearance there.

AND

Despite stepping off an trans-Atlantic flight barely a few hours before, this was an uplifting experience. Stag Meadow is a wonderfully archaic venue surrounded by slopes and scary looking oaks that cast spooky shadows and just being there was a stark reminder of the era when I fell in love with the game in the first place back in the 60s at Elm Park: the smell of tobacco, Bovril, moaning old gits in sparse crowds and terraces! Wonderful. We stood by the Totton bench and every other word was oxf*rd. A great afternoon spent in the Stygian gloom of an English December day. Me and TB wallowed in the beautiful simplicity of it at all as we have not done so for many a year.

Two very good footballing teams that were a credit to their league. Totton were gutted at the end and you got the impression that this was a cup final for them; they deserved at least a point. As well as doubling the attendance, their small travelling band of supporters were magnificent. The Royalists will face Bracknell Town at the Stag next Saturday and the Robins are going to get a new [****!!****] ripped.

The coffee was appalling, the sausage and bacon roll was obscenely phallic in shape and equally appalling (but yum); the club shop stank of...old programmes, piss and Bovril and if you want an Eastville Colliery prog from 1994 it is the place to go.

Superb result, great game and terrific atmosphere. I feel both sets of players played the game in the right spirit and the ref allowed a strongly contested match to be played without ruining it with loads of cards. The spirit of teh game was emphasised by two points in teh game when Fagan touched the ball past the defender on the endge of the 6 yard box and got a touch on him, he didn't go down but tried to score instead. A few minutes later their forward did exactly the same in our box and again he stayed on his feet. You wouldn't see that in the premiership, especially not between the top two teams. I thinkk it is important to see how much it meant to both sets of players, nice to see they genuinely care about the result.

It may have been "mind games" or some such malarky but a bit disappointed with the lack of respect shown to Windsor by the Totton manager. We all know if you set yourself up like that you are going to take a fall. Think about it, we are undefeated in the league, have conceded the fewest goals in the league this season, finished above them last year and have taken 7 of a possible 9 points off of them in teh last three games, yes be confident as you are a good team but don't write us off.

But it is one game, remember last year, Totton were the best team I saw last year (and so far this year) and they had a period in the season when they got 3 points from a possible 18!! Long way to go yet, many games to play and thee horrid weather conditions and pitch deterioration of February.

So lets enjoy it, we look good, we are playing well and we are top of the league!!!!!!

UTR!!!!

Excellent result, excellent performance. Fair play to both teams for making it such a entertaining and high quality match on a pretty heavy pitch. Thankfully there was no gale force wind as it would have been disappointing if the game had been affected by the weather conditions. Also the referee had a great game; he let the game flow and even turned a blind eye to a few challenges that would have normally resulted in yellow cards.

Like most I was slightly annoyed to hear the comments their manager had made about Victor, had he actually seen him play?? Or was he going on a very weak scouting report he had received. Either way he's seen him play now and probably feels quite silly. Wonder what Wolfie thinks!

Again we looked well solid at the back and we needed to be against a very good attacking unit. Their no11 seemed to be their stand out player; virtually everything they did went through him.

Attacking wise we look like creating something every time we go forward, it was another great through ball from Wilson to setup the goal. How many times have we said that already this season?

I don't think I've seen a goal celebrated with such euphoria down the Meadow since the Slough (6-2) game.

Also Farnborough lost which makes us the only undefeated side in senior football i.e. top 8 levels. A fine achievement.

A complete lack of dignity in that report, no praise for a team that has gone so far undefeated in the league and beaten them in a tough entertaining match. They probably did deserve a point at least but they didn't score. I thought we defended very well and also pressured their defence for periods of the game.

I can understand a level of disappointment as they are a fine team but the lack of respect shown by their manager in his comments before the game and now the official report on their web site is just a bit poor. I would however say a big well done to their fans on the day who were superb before, during and after the game and were a credit to the club.

We DID look like soring during the game and I thought there could have been a hatful of goals spread between the two teams (and if either team had been playing any other team in the league on that day i reckon you would have seen a big scoreline.

One thing I am glad to see is no-one, from either side, blaming the officials for anything, they refereed a tough game in difficult conditions and i would very much like to see them back for a few more Windsor games

Good luck to Totton for the rest of the season, but not too much eh? ;-)

I have just read the Totton report and am a little bemused about its' accuracy. We certainly had more than one shot on target but more importantly had the greater possession and opportunities in the 2nd half. I agree with everyone that a draw would have been a fair result and Totton certainly are a very good team. The officials were excellent throughout the match and it was played in the right spirit. It will be intereresting to see who has the strongest nerve between now and the end of the season and I for one am looking forward to the reverse fixture down there......

I've just joined the W & E forum !!!!

Rother, anyone that has that album must be OK by me - and probably as old if how I felt Sunday morning is anything to go by!!

Anyway, great day saturday, well done. I agree, it was very even and if there was going to be a winner, it should have been us but a draw would have been fairer. Your defence was imense, to keep jacko as quiet as he was tells me something.

Where is this quote about your chappie ? If your local rag is anything like ours, they don't let a bit of out context and untuth get in the way of a good story.

As for the report, I dont see anything ungracious in there, just a slight home bias - nothing different than anywhere else I would have thought.

I my opinion, we play better against the better teams and it is very early days but I will be very surprised if we are not the top two next April. How surprised we were last season to hear Didcot had beaten you in the plays off and then us. Just goes to show it is a long season.

Got to say it.....Fair play to W&E. Read your report & coments & sounds like you came out of a tough fixture on top (all be it only just!) I know theres a long way to go yet but i dont think theres anyone who doesnt think it'll be between you & Totton at the end but with football being football i bet whoever finishes 2nd WONT win the play-offs!!!

You may of thought that game was tough but in 2 weeks time you travel down to Somerset to take on my boys Frome Town when hopefully we'll be back to full strength & really put you on the rack!!!

As you didnt make that game i can tell you we really should of won that but you 'parked the bus' something which i doubt you'll do at home and we'll expolit that. Fair play to AFC Totton for making a game of it!

It was tactics that obviously worked Woody coz we came away with a point, which is more than most come away with, & not wanting to "Big you up" to much an excellent point it was!! Youre right too, we wont be "Parking the Bus" when you visit The Hill, we'll be looking for all 3 points but in Darren Perrin we have a very knowledgeable & capable manager who will, im sure, instill just the right amount of respect. He obviously saw what W&E are like when we played you, he also saw your game with Hungerford so he'll get it right on the day.
