Training in Strood

at the end of the day the lads want to play football but they also have jobs of there own as well and understandably that can sometimes be a problem but also these guys only have to be involved with a couple of training sessions a week and match day so if you say thats only 12hrs of there time a week and for a sum of i guess £200 thats not bad, four times a month = 48hrs and £800 .

We have all heard of the way that the squad don`t always get together for training or ring in and say they can`t make it but we can`t be the only team with these problems and you don`t really hear of any other club moaning about the squad . We also all know that its been an issue as to where Margate is situated so they should also think of that before plying there trade in Thanet instead of using us as a holiday club like Mark Butler has stated .

I wish it was like the old days like Porka stated where we are pushing for promotion but we need a bunch of guys like we had in the conf days that were willing to commit . They now have a boss that wants commitment and i think some don`t like the idea of that so the next few weeks could hold alot of surprises and shock amongst the squad and about time to .

I dont know anything official only rumoursFrom those I have heard it is only on thursdays. Unfortunatly until we can attract the best of east kent( this is a reason why we need Nev on board) and not only thanet, if we want to progress up the leagues then we are going to have to take players from outside the area. As for people not turning up for training I would say that is a item from the past.

"Porka" where were you Sunday. the mini bus waited for you. also the 2 others who did not turn up, leaving us short again.

Wasn't told there was a minibus going up. What time did it leave? Knew it'd be difficult with a game in the morning so I decided against making any arrangement. But that game got cancelled after the rain we had Sunday morning.

Local players have proven to not be good enough over recent years - both in attitude and ability. Yes a generalisation and unfair on some but look at the car crashes we have seen. The

sunday league and Kent league is the highest most of these should be playing. I have heard some horror stories in recent weeks about some players who used to play for us (which we

had to accept because they were 'local players' ) and I cringe that they were playing for us. Mark Butler will bring some professionalism and hopefully decent standards back - and

who cares where they come from (as long as not the sunday league or lower league!). Ramsgate used to hark on about their local players and they went down with a sunday league defence

(apart from Nick Davis who was their only decent player and not local!). I am sure TW will be on soon to say how wonderful they all are but local has not worked.

Hopefully Dan Young will be back soon to shore us up alongside a decent experienced defender....

I think could be a worry as this could be the start of local boys unable to get there?

Going back to Chelsea boys very first post in this thread-i assume i have missed something.

Has it been stated then that there will no longer be training in Margate for the first team.

My understanding was that we have always trained 2 nights a week in the Gravesend/Strrod area for the last 7/8 seasons;but TY endeavoured to change that about 6 months ago by instigating thursday night training in Margate.

CB's post implies it has changed back to two nights per week in north Kent only.

Is that something that MB has said/changed that i have missed somewhere ?

Interesting topic regardless but are we debating fact or supposition ?

Yes i agree we were terrible last year but you have to remember the good local players that we have lost over the last year or so. Im proud that our club just refuses to get into debt so that we can get higher up the ladder (at what ever the cost). I may be wrong but trying to stay in the conference almost cost you supporters your club( as it almost did at dover?)

It seems that every club like ours either plods on like the rams do and have a bit of success now and again or really go for it and risk everything ( but i cant really think of any non league clubs that have done this successfully) I do think our problems last year was caused by having a mixture of local players and a bunch of london type players because it certainly caused a them and us situation. As for Curtis Robinson i would love to see him put a rams shirt on if you dont want him.

Well back to the thread - I have it on a reliable source that the pitches at Strood are worse than margate. Yes its good that the whole squad can train together and it is only once a week they go up there but the local lads dont get paid any extra for the travelling there whereas the other members of the squad who live away get paid extra.

Thoughts anyone??

I have no idea whether you are correct or not MB.

Either way,if the club are training ar Margate once week -does that not balance itself out ?

Is there not also the small matter of approx 25 home games being played a season at Margate which any local players can more easily get to ?

Does it matter anyway ?

Does it actually matter that the pitches at strood may not be great (if correct )-is'nt it more important what you do in the time available ?

Do you also think that any supporters who live locally should pay less admission at HDP than those who 'travel' ?

Life is full of imbalances-we all have a choice whether to go with them or not ?

As I have stated before during the week it does not matter where a player lives BUT as to where he works. For instance there is a local player who works in Essex so for mid week training Strood, Bexley, Romford or Hackney Marshes is a shorter journey than Thanet. On the other hand there is also a player who lives in the West of the County but works in Thanet.

As regards to players expenses etc it is all a matter of irresponsible conjecture by fans.
